Donnie Kilfin is not only a top-notch lawyer, he's just a dammed nice guy. Donnie truly cares about his clients. I know, I was one of them. Recently, I unexpectedly found out I had a warrant for my arrest in St. Petersburg that was nearly 20-years-old. I had written a bad check in 1995 for just over $300 for a new pair of glasses and I was facing a felony charge. Thing is, I never knew about it, I was never contacted about it and I had moved to Boston shortly after- I had no clue I was in trouble this way. It showed up on a background report I had run for a job I applied for in New Orleans. After my cold sweat subsided, I went online to find a lawyer and came across his website. The testimonials were so positive I gave him a call. From the minute he answered the phone I felt like he was down to earth, polite and responsible. He is articulate, understanding and NON- judgmental. He listened to my story, he was patient with the fact I didn't have a lot of details, and said he would find out what the details were with just my name. But the thing that impressed me most was his knowledge of the law. He had a gut feeling just from our preliminary conversation he could get the case dismissed ( NO PROSECUTION - aka "no prossed"), due to a statute of limitations clause in the law. I mean he knew it right off the top of his head, and said he was more than mildly confident he could petition the prosecutor for an early dismissal and retraction of the warrant. That's exactly what he did...and he did it in just a few days. I made restitution to the company I wrote the check to and he did the rest. I was so relieved. He charged me what I felt was a very reasonable retainer, taking my credit card right over the phone. I never had to leave New Orleans, he did everything by email and phone. I came to learn he is very respected in the prosecutor's office and works with them on a regular basis. In fact, Donnie used to be a prosecutor in the St. Pete office, so he knows the law backwards and forwards. He knows them, and they know him - and his reputation is impeccable with them. I think that really says a lot about him. Lastly, I think many times, or all the time, when people are facing the kind of situation that requires a lawyers help, although they may not admit it, they are really scared. I sure was. Donnie Kilfin understands this, and because he cares about people, he does what he can to reassure his clients. He always gets back to you by phone and email, he explains legal terminology so the client understands exactly what's happening and he takes the time to calm your worries as much as he can. How many lawyers really care like that? Not many, I'm willing to bet. For most legal eagles it's just business, but with Donnie, it's personal, he treats you like a friend. Donald is by far the most compassionate and level headed attornies I've ever met. I haven't needed to hire an attorney, have several friends who are, but when I did come to a juncture in my life, I sure am glad I found him. His extensive knowledge of law, and care he put in to making sure my case was known for what it is and having his support through it all (and even after) was very comforting and professional. Donny handled a very difficult situation for me and my wife, his tenacity in my opinion is hard to be matched. Our situation was very unique in which it involved many states. he NEvER promised anything instead he said he would give it his very best shot his honesty helped me believe he would. Donald Kilfin is the best at what he does, hand down!! This attorney is intelligent, available, easy to talk to, caring yet aggressive & confident. I hired Donald Kilfin to defend me in my DUI, possession(with oxycontin) and driving with a suspended license. BEST DECISION EVER. There are no words in short order to sum up who Donald Kilfin is as an attorney. He is kind-hearted, non-judgmental, charismatic, and very professional. He has been my notable advocate during the entirety of my case. Regrettably, in the past, I have been in need of a defense attorney. Mr. Kilfin, by far, has towered above any previous legal representation I have had. During my initial phone consultation with Mr. Kilfin, I explained my urgency for a defense attorney. During our first (and only) face-to-face meeting, he gathered the details of what happened from my standpoint. He has also worked as a state prosecutor in the past, which definitely “sold me” while consulting with potential defense attorney’s for my case. He has both prosecuting and defending experience. That left me feeling reassured that with his law background and expertise in various areas of practice, he was “beyond comparison” the best choice for me. I had to put my faith and trust in Mr. Kilfin. That was a very valuable and eye opening lesson that he taught me, without him even knowing that, to this day. I believe the charge that I was arrested for was iron-handed and unchanging until I spoke to Mr. Kilfin for the first time. He always returned my calls within a reasonable amount of time. I suffer with anxiety so worry is a part of my everyday life.
