Concerns over billing practices and refund policies for clients
“Here is where I find issue with the law and Mr. Gufford. My wife and I ended up reconciling our differences and we both agreed to voluntarily dismiss our case. My wife's attorney put the majority of her retainer in her case's trust fund, sent notices and gave a periodic statements. With the dismissal, her firm also agreed to refund part of the retainer because they did not bill the full hours the retainer was to cover. An honest firm. On my side of the coin, Mr. Gufford's office hadn't sent any statement of expenses and in fact didn't contact me directly (since my initial consultation) until I emailed them to notify of the dismissals. Then I was told they used my trust fund for expenses and I would get half back and so sorry they are going to keep the whole retainer.”

“When I had a question about my case I was pretty much shrugged off by Joe. He told me that he was dealing with a trial and basically didn't have time, and that I should call at a later date for any changes/additions. It made me feel that my case was not as important as his other case.”
