My investigation was just closed last week as unfounded/no probable cause, so please pardon the visceral emotion. My character was called into question and so was my 24 years of honorable service, my pension, my benefits, my future employment opportunities, and my freedom. As someone with a good moral compass, my first reaction was to go down to the CID office to “clear everything up.” This knee-jerk reaction is a double edged sword/hidden trap as self-exoneration is the first knee-jerk desire for any falsely accused person, but unfortunately, we are way too inexperienced to defend against potential life-ending adverse action.
