I came to Nicole as a referral from a domestic abuse advocate. I had already been divorced a few years and was terrified of going BACK into court with my ex. But I felt I had been given no choice. My ex did not agree with a medical diagnosis and treatment for our son. A condition my son had since birth and the same doctors since birth. I thought that this would be a no -brainer. I met with Nicole and was assured that this would be something that she could handle. Due to my very limited income, I was told that I would need to do a lot of the LEG WORK myself to keep the cost down. I did just that. I spent 3 months collecting documents, and following the direction of NICOLES ASSISTANT! Who happened to be a god send. I will just call her M. M was in court with me, answering calls and walking me through this legal mine field. As we got deeper into the battle I heard less and less from Nicole. At one point my son needed a medical procedure that 4 doctors agreed on and wrote letters on behalf of. M had spoken with ex's attorney and it was agreed that my son could have the procedure. I urged M to have it written into a court order. I was shocked that I had to come up with this idea. M was sweet but very inexperienced. Court order written. Day of procedure comes. Ex shows up at hospital and demands that the procedure is stopped. I call M. She never told me to bring the court order. So my son was pulled out of the medical procedure still under anesthesia. Nothing was done to punish or hold him accountable. Nicole never explained how or why this was allowed. At that point I didn't know who to be more angry with, my ex or Nicole. After all I was not paying my ex with the misguided belief that he was going to protect my son. I was paying Nicole. Nicole barely participated in my case. M was there at every turn. I did start to receive calls from Nicole when the retainer ran low. Now Nicole was front and center. As a matter of fact, Nicole only came to two court appearances. The first one and the one where she left my case because I stopped paying her. There were to many missteps, unreturned calls, emails and misinformation. Not to mention the fact that she took a very stressful situation and made it much worse. She didn't answer questions. I constantly had to chase down answers and when I needed her to explain or clarify, she became angry and condescending. This women is not on anyone's side except her own. I highly recommend you go pro se before you consider hiring NICOLE L. CENTRACCHIO.

It is my privilege to highly recommend Nicole Centracchio, an excellent lawyer and her wonderful staff There are not enough words to describe how appreciative I am for the outstanding job Nicole and her group did with my divorce case. She was concise, professional and kind. Ms. Centracchio not only gets things done but has an innate understanding of what you and your family are going through. She formulated an effective strategy and left behind the drama. I was in a difficult marriage that lasted 26 years and originally was represented by a different lawyer where the drama, fear and heartache I went through during this time period was awful. After my ex husband's lawyer quit on him I took the opportunity to also get someone else to represent me. My prayers were answered when a counselor recommended Ms. Centracchio and I hired her as my new attorney. From the moment Nicole took my case things became fair and relevant. I got my life back and I again believed in the judicial system. Nicole Centracchio is my hero and the most wonderful lawyer and person. She is revered by me and I am indebted to her for her wisdom, dedication, hard work and decency. Her fabulous staff was like no other and treated me with respect. The culmination of this group gave me a voice and a future for myself and my daughters. God heard me and sent this amazing individual to use her skills to right so many wrongs. She made it possible to help me financially and emotionally while also upholding the Constitution and Laws of the United States. Forever grateful and forever my hero, noble and good....Nicole Centracchio Counselor at Law.

I thought that writing a review of my attorney Nicole Centracchio would be easy be but it isn't. THERE ARE TOO MANY WORDS TO DESCRIBE HER! Nicole is the epitome of a servant who works very diligently to ensure that her clients are knowledgeable, comfortable, and suited with the appropriate legal armor to take on any divorce and custody situation. I was referred to Nicole in September of 2013. I was so desperate to find someone who would listen to my story without judgement. After calling her office, we scheduled a meeting to discuss the issues in my divorce/custody case. We soon discovered that my case was one of a kind. I immediately felt comfortable with Nicole’s professionalism and confidence that we would come out victorious one way or another. That day I left her office feeling as if a burden had been lifted from me and with her help I would fly to victory. Not to mention that together we would make history as we unveiled a twist to an INTERNATIONAL ISSUE. For four years, Nicole worked to ensure that the best interest of my son was top priority. She was very efficient with all communications and made sure that my questions were answered. I literally put my life in Nicole’s hand and watched her gently guide me through the most emotional phase of my life. Nicole’s confidence was warmth to my chill, and I DID NOT BREAK. I AM SO GRATEFUL for your humble servanthood, compassion, dedications, and patience. March 23rd will forever be a monumental day of VICTORY for me. I believe that God comes in many forms and He sends his angels to serve………….servant well done!

Sometimes we are not strong enough to make and follow through on the decisions that are best for us. I needed a lawyer I could trust to guide me in those decision. Ms. Centracchio not only gave me excellent advice, she said and did the things I wasn't strong enough to say and do on my own. She was fearless when I was fearful. She was strong when I felt weak. Only because of her efforts was I able to get out of the marriage quickly and financially much better off. I can't thank her enough.

This lawyer pretty much failed me and my child in every respect. Did not seek financials on my ex though he failed to provide them for months, paid no attention to written facts and kept track of no details, was combative and rude in most consultations, and told me to do a lot of my own legal work while charging me large sums monthly. I wasted over $10,000 and six months while this lawyer did nothing to represent me or bring the divorce to a close, despite the fact that she knew circumstances were bad and assets were not large. And that I was solely responsible for a very young child. She basically tried to get me to sign a terrible settlement proposal and became nearly hysterical when I said I would not give up my home or give my abusive ex (who is convicted of Battery) more parenting time and joint custodial decision making. Worst decision I ever made to take a friend of a friend's recommendation. Thanks to this lawyer's lack of skill and respect for her clients, my husband gutted our 401K while she did nothing about it and dragged out the proceedings for over a year thinking I would run out of money and he could win by default. Please look elsewhere, especially if you have children and have experienced real criminal or other problems with the spouse you are divorcing. Terrible experience! Run...

I have had real bad experience with attorneys before meeting ms. lane. I had a dui probation violation and the attorney I paid good money sold me out and I end up in prison for probation violation, which was not a violation in my view. Ms. Lane was appointed to handle charges against me - it was criminal felony charges that could keep me in prison for 7 plus years. I knew I didn't commit that crime, but because I was already in prison I told Ms. Lane that I don't mind pleading guilty for something so I can get it over and done with! Prosecutors were telling her that I was guilty and I should plead 5 year and they will forgive the rest of the years. I was going to plead, but Ms Lane said I don't let you go before the judge and lie. The prosecutor was scaring both that if we go trial I would get the longest charge 7 plus years. Ms. Lane said we will take a chance with the jury. after 2 months back and forth, the prosecutor told her I should accept a misdemeanor for 1 year and I was going to take it but she said you are not guilty we will take a chance with the jury. then we had to go before the judge. Prosecutor said to judge taht my attorney is not allowing to plead becasue Iwas willing to take the plea deal. The judge looked at me and said Sir do you want to plead guilty to this charge and I said yes. Judge said let's hear your story. Ms lane said judge my client is not guilty but he wants to plead guilty because he is scared of sitting longer if convicted of something he ididnt' do. I will not let him stand before you and lie. I have informed him of his right and he is going against my advices. she stepped aside. Judge started asking me about the specifics of the crime and I didn't know the answers and looked at my attorney and boy did she tell me! she said you are on your won Michael. Well the judge told me "enough" I heard enough set it for trial. One month later the day of the trial, the prosecutor still scaring my attorney to accept plea just fine not time, my attorney told me she would accept it if she were me. She said you are innocent let's take our change with jury. Well that was the day of my life, prosector went before the judge and said we are dismissing the case because we can proof our burden beyond reasonable doubt. Case dismissed the day of the trial after three or so months after the charge. Ms Lane I wished I had known you before. YOu are the best nobody ever fought for me as hard as you did.

Ms. Lane was handeling my brother's DUI when I heard of her. Soon afterwards, the police was on my door for back child support pretending to be mail delivery and that is how all began. They came to my house to arrest me and as I was emptying my pocket out and giving it all to my girlfriend they grabbed it from her and going thru my wallet, IDs and lighter. They claim my lighter was stiletto and I was charged with carring a switchblade criminal misdemeanor. Before you know I was arrested had to pay bond to get out. This is when I hired Ms. Lane. I told her that I had bought that lighter for $5 at a gas station and it had a knife inside like a box cutter. Long story short, I was not going to plead for having a knife/box cuter - specially at my home when I live out in the county. Prosecutor was "dick" and wanted me to plead guilty or else... my attorney was the best thing that ever happened to me. She said my client wants a jury trial. After a long all day trial and the judge, prosecutor and the two cops giving her hell. Will all respect she contiued with inforing the jury about the 2 Amendment, that this was not a switchblade and did not appear to be ... she bpulled out a pen out of her pocket that had a knief inside .. scaring the cop that he was so dumb. I can tell how hard they made it to her and she never quit fighting for me. The Jury was out only 10 minutes - the verdict was sweet - NOT GUILTY... thanks to her I ahve no criminal record. The cops look dumb! best day of my life .. I called everybody saying how great my attorney was.... Thank you Ms.Lane!

Attorney Levitt is an outstanding attorney. He handled a large class action case for us in regards to an educational loan company. From the moment we met Adam, we knew we made the right choice. He is very personable and continually kept us up to date during the entire process. We recently found out we won our case. Adam did a fabulous job representing us and the entire group involved in the suit.. Not once did we doubt his experience. We enjoyed getting to know Adam and highly recommend him to anyone. It was a pleasure to do business with him. We had the greatest faith in Adam and will reach out to his services again, if needed. We cannot say enough great things about Attorney Levitt! He is the best.

Adam is assisting me with a consumer problem relating to one of the nation's largest banks. After reviewing my issues with the bank, he filed a class action on my behalf. He has consistently demonstrated exceptional skills, knowledge and expertise. When he makes a commitment or tells me that he is going to do something, he does so in a timely and professional manner. He keeps his word. Adam lets me know what is happening, makes certain that I am informed as to the status of the case and each new development. He explains the issues, process, strategy and next steps. He has a strong commitment to providing quality work, a true professional. And perhaps most important, Adam displays a genuine interest in helping me. Adam is an attorney who obviously cares about his clients. I would strongly recommend him to anyone that needs his type of expertise and services.

As my attorney in a copyright infringement case for over one year, I found Vivek to live up to his billing as one of the rising stars in this area of law in the Chicago area. I found him to be 100% honest extremely intelligent, and also someone who is willing to work tirelessly on behalf of his clients. In a world where lawyers often are viewed in so negatively, I found Vivek to be a breath of fresh air. In my opinion , he stands out as not only a brilliant attorney but one of impeccable integrity. I would reccommend him to anyone.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Chicago, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
