I first used Jim on my first home purchase 27 years ago. The real estate agent had said that he had noticed Jim was the attorney for many closings and his customers had said what a great attorney he was. So we decided to go with his suggestion and I am so happy that we did.
In our purchase years ago, (same home), while at the closing, the seller decided that he was no longer willing to sell the house and that we would have to find another home. Our prior place was already rented out, and we had to move our family of eight, to another location. Jim did not miss a beat and within minutes had convinced the seller why it was in his best interests to continue with the sale.
Recently I went to refinance and the title search company was dragging its feet. Several times the closing was postponed due to this problem. The day before the next proposed closing, I was told that the original loan was never paid and that I would have to add that to the current loan. Obviously, that sent me scurrying trying to get the documentation showing that the loan was paid off years prior. I called Jim in hopes that he would be able to direct me to the correct location to get the proof only for him to stop what he was doing and for an hour he went through all the documents to show that everything was in line and that there was no reason for the title company to be holding up the closing.
I closed yesterday without any problems.
His willingness to go the extra mile for his clients is clearly evident. This family will FOREVER be grateful for all of his help throughout these years.

We've used James Habel for multiple lot and house purchases/sales for past 19 years. Just sold our lot today after few buyers backed out days before the closings.
He's always been very professional and always double checked our contracts/papers. Some don't like how long it takes but we know he's watching out for our best interest.
We will always contact James for any future real estate actions in future.
Thanks again James Habel and can't wait to see what future holds for us all!

Buying a house in the middle of certain life events can be a very difficult process, but James gave me very good/solid/direct advice and helped simplify a complicated situation. He is good at giving direct answers and very responsive.

James Habel helped us close on our house in Berwyn while helping us close on our new house in Huntley. He kept all the papers moving and was so efficient, kind, knowledgeable, precise and amazing! We had to do everything during Covid restrictions and kept in touch via email and phone. He was the best!!!

James has been our family real estate attorney since I can remember. He's been there to guide me though my first purchase and 2 more since then. He has also worked numerous times for my father with great results. As most real estate attorneys, he prefers email but will get on the phone to explain more detail if you need. He is busy because he is great at his craft. You will never have to worry about deadlines with him. He's got it covered. James is early for closings every time. Last purchase, my wife and I had gotten into a home contract that had a extensive list back from an inspector. He was able to break everything apart and strategically negotiate with the seller attorney to get the deal done and everyone happy. He knows what to ask for and what not to. I always remember to CC him on emails to my agent, just in case, and you can tell he scans through the emails and will intervene to help correct something that stands out to him. I wouldn't hesitate giving his name out!

I hired this attorney to assist on the closing of my home. He did not respond to emails. When I did contact him by telephone, he had not read my time sensitive emails. When constructing an inspection response letter in misquoted us, provided inaccurate information in direct conflict to information we had provided and provided significantly contradictory info that would leave us legally liable. Whats more, he sent this info to the buyers attorney without providing us with a draft or the response first. When I tried to give him the opportunity to make things right and regain our trust, he still did not follow our requests.

I would never trust anyone more than I trust James Habel with buying a home. He was very responsive to every question I had and even though some of the questions were a little off the wall,, he still answered them. I did not even like all the answers but appreciated the time he took to explain why things had to be done a certain way. I would refer him to anyone of my friends or clients because he proved himself a wonderful lawyer and now a friend.

Highly recommend Jim Habel. Since he is independent, it may be a challenge at times to reach him, but that's because he has many clients and works on his own. He also clearly told us this before we went with him. His price to represent us was exceptional and his work also rates an A+. I would definitely use Jim Habel again.

Jim helped my husband and I close on our first house in 2009. He was responsive; he explained things in layman's terms (but never left out the important nitty gritty details); and very easy to work with. I recommend him.
