PSLS offers low income residents in the community affordable or free legal services and they do their best with the resources they have. Nearly every one star review is from people who have not qualified for services, or have not ever received services, because unfortunately, the demand for their services exceeds their capacity to deliver them, which is unfortunate, but not their fault. People aren't entitled to PSLS' services, but PSLS still does the best they can and they are a credit to the community. I encourage anyone who struggles with affording an attorney to at least try to apply with PSLS as a starting point, because you won't be disappointed by the service you actually receive if you do qualify and do your part to work with them as they represent you.

Prairie State Legal Services were able to help me get my record expunged/sealed with absolutely no stress in the process. I truly appreciate Mr. Black. My review was deleted within 12 hours. I’m just trying to bring awareness to the public on my personal experience. I reside in an apartment building in Rockford Illinois, my neighbor, who is an employee at Prairie State Legal made discriminating and abusive comments to me this past weekend about my disability and receiving SSI benefits, being on the section 8 housing voucher program, my past involvement with the child welfare system, I was called a “Deadbeat Mom” and told that even after I expunged my criminal record I will forever be a criminal, along with other profanity and name calling. All of which was caught on ring doorbell video surveillance. This is concerning to me for someone to be working at a law firm where there is supposed to be a voice for people like me in poverty. Other than this incident, I have no complaints and I was overall satisfied and impressed. I’ve had nothing but a great experience with my attorney, David black, who helped me expunge my criminal record in both Stephenson county, and Winnebago county. I think Prairie state legal is beneficial to the community but it’s concerning that I had the experience that I did with one of their own employees, even more so because I have a sign on my door that says “smile you’re on camera” along with a ring doorbell, and I was still treated that way with verbal abuse and discrimination. Makes you wonder what’s going on there behind closed doors or how employees truly feel about the poor and disabled.
