They don’t follow their own policies, They give you legal advice while speaking but then when In writing give the exact opposite and claim that’s what they said. I gave them every thing they needed to prove the mother of my child was lying but they did not submit it as evidence and did not question her on most of her lies. I gave them everything they needed to prove contempt charges but they did not submit it as evidence. So she walked. To be fair the judge broke the law to protect the mother so that would not have mattered. During the modification hearing I was told “oh don’t worry about the details of what you want, we’ll submit that in writing”. I didn’t see anything submitted in writing, I wasn’t allowed to take anything up to the stand to read off what I wanted, so most of what I wanted came out scattered, unorganized and wasn’t considered by the judges assistants who actually write up the order. I have spent thousands with them, at least 20, and now that I’m in debt they switch my lawyer and the new lawyers not comfortable doing his job with the accrued debt. My advice Do not settle for anything less than 50/50 visitation, 50/50 custody, and 50/50 physical care. They all have different legal meanings. DO NOT LET A LAWYER TALK YOU DOWN FROM THIS. Swing for the fences because once the final decree is in. That’s it. Nothing changes unless certain legalities justify it and what is best for the child has absolutely nothing to do with it. The mediator your own lawyer and anyone else in the room will try to brow beat you into settling for less. Do not take it. Ask it to be put in the court order that legally binding arbitration will be used on future disputes. The arbitrator is not so strictly bound by law and can concise what is best for the child. After if you’re in a bad situation like me. Save your money. Hire a paralegal to show you how to keep proper notes. So that when the day comes you’ll have everything the judge/arbitrator wants to see. And do not hire cordel and cordel they didn’t do anything for me a first year law student couldn’t have. I can’t recommend any lawyers. The only case I won was the one I represented myself in. No lawyer has represented me to my satisfaction.

Absolutely horrible place if you're wanting to get anything done, apparently 35k a year before taxes with two kids is far too much to get help from the state in a domestic abuse divorce case, not only did this place take about a year to even get things done but they gave zero updates about it and what they were getting done, if they got anything moving, a case was forwarded to a lawerys help program which nothing was ever heard back from them, and after about a year they sent a letter stating " oh we haven't heard anything back from you so we are closing your case, you must have found help somewhere else " They made Zero attempt to contact thru email, no attempt to call and give updates or get any more needed information and no letters in the mail up until that one stating they're closing the case. This is sickening and disgusting the process they took, and how they handled things This is absolutely the most unprofessional sickening place of business that I've ever known regarding helping those in a tough financial situation An ABUSE case and divorce/legal help situations. It's really sad to see that Iowa legal aid doesn't care about ALL abused women who are struggling to get away from their past.

All depends on who you talk to. Sometimes they are very helpful and exactly what you need. Other times they just say they can't help without even hearing what you need. My advice is go ahead and see if they can help. Worst they can say is no.
