I’ve worked with Matt Donnelly at Petefish Law on two very different and unique legal matters over the last couple of years. Mr. Donnelly has been nothing but calm, honest, professional and incredibly proficient at cutting right to the heart of a matter and most importantly, putting me at ease and just handling the issue at hand with great expertise. I never imagined I’d be in a situation where I’d need to retain a lawyer, but when you do find yourself in that situation, you’re going to want someone who is trustworthy, caring and more than capable of handling anything that arises. Mr. Donnelly and Petefish Law have been there for me on a moment's notice when I needed someone whom I trusted to advise me on how to handle some very complex issues. This law firm can handle a surprising range of legal issues, they’ve been around for 100 years and I’d personally recommend them to anyone that asked me who to turn to for legal advice.

I would suggest you look elsewhere. My experience with this law firm was a waste of my time and sadly, money. To start, the attorney, gets back to you after deadlines and basically, hustles money out of you for services that were not properly rendered. I went in for a consultation, which they charge a fee for. Fine, nothing out of the ordinary, but basically, the consultation would indicate that if I wanted to determine if I have a case, I would need to spend more money. I thought that's what a consultation was for, not to hustle more money to determine if I actually have a case. Also, it was rather unprofessional to set a meeting and then 45 minutes prior to that meeting attempt to reschedule. I have heard great things about Terry Leibold and was recommended that I reach out, but I did not get to work directly with Terry Leibold, instead I got one of his associates who just wanted to hustle more funds out of me. What a waste of time and money. Should you ever need services, please consider choosing another firm. Or perhaps opting to not work for Mr. Matthew Donnelly.

FIND SOMEONE ELSE, THESE GUYS WILL RIP YOU OFF. I was recommended to Petefish through KU for some help creating a draft of a standard letter for a startup. Things seemed fine at first but in hindsight it was very unprofessional. There was no letter of engagement (first red flag). I asked what they could do to try and keep costs low for the startup and they told me they do these letters regularly using templates so it would only take 2-3 hours and they could finish the whole thing at under $350 total but the catch was they couldn't start right away and would take a week to get something to me. I ended up getting the letter 2 weeks later (i.e. 1 week later) and was billed for over $750. By then I had found a 2nd law firm in Lawrence that I'm very happy with and asked them about these hours and charges from Petefish and they agreed that it was outrageous. So I disputed the charges with Petefish and they ended up knocking off about $50 (...thanks). In talking with at least 1 other startup, they said they went through the same thing and had to go back and dispute overcharges with lackluster results. In summary, I will never use them again and if I did, I would get EVERYTHING in writing, on letterhead, with signatures. GOOD LUCK TO YOU IF YOU DECIDE TO GO WITH THESE GUYS, YOU'LL NEED IT.
