Carly was hired to mediate the division of my partner and I's house, that we both owned as shown in the title/deed to the property. At the end of our first mediation session, we were actually further away from coming to an agreement than when my partner and I discussed it on our own. I was offered less than 3% of the equity on the house. (Which all the lawyers I talked to said was insane.) Carly was argumentative and combative during the mediation sessions. She didn't use normal mediation practices, like separating the couples and listening to arguments separately. She raised her voice at me and told me to stop talking when I was in the middle of a sentence and at the end of our 2nd mediation session, (after my partner and I had to lawyer up) we both agreed just to handle it outside of the mediation. Since removing Carly as the mediator, things have gone a lot smoother. I wish I wouldn't have wasted a lot of money on a mediator that didn't follow standard mediation practices to deescalate a contentious matter. I would save your money and higher another mediator or just let both your partner's lawyer and your own handle it.
