When your son is dating someone with emotional issues, whom is unbalanced, it is scary enough. When your son tries to break it off, and that person takes a whole new trip down crazy road and your son lands up being arrested because of it, it's terrifying. When you've had no legal experience, your family suddenly finds itself thrust into the scary legal world that's revolving around you, and evaluations and appointments and dates are being thrown at you. An appointed attorney who barely takes time to listen to your side of the story is thrown at you, and you fear for your sons' future. When we, unfortunately, found ourselves thrown into this situation, we called a friend who's family member is an attorney. The attorney highly recommended Tyler Garretson. We were told for a juvenile criminal case, there was no one better in Johnson County. When we first met Mr. Garretson, we were immediately impressed and put at ease. He took time out of his Saturday morning to meet with us, as we were too anxious to wait until Monday morning. Tyler was invested in our conversation and listened to my sons' side of the story and gave us the first glimpse of hope that we had had in this terrible situation. He made us feel a lot better about the situation that we were facing and was upfront and honest throughout the process. He was with us every step of the way, and we could email him at any time and he would always reply promptly. We were kept notified of what we needed to do, and never felt that we were alone in this scary world. We highly recommend Mr. Garretson. While we certainly hope to never have the need to use him professionally again, if trouble did arise, he would be our first call.

Tyler Garretson is a wonderful attorney who really does care about his clients and proves it by going the extra mile. We cannot put into words how grateful we are that he helped our daughter. I highly recommend Mr. Garretson for your defense.

About six months ago my door was kicked in. I was found with 2 1/2 lbs. of marajuana and charged with several felonys, which by today's stadards warrants a time of up to five to eight years in prison. I am happy to say that in the end we were able to make a deal at only 35 days with a sentence of probation. I feel so relieved and blessed I found Tyler and hired him as my attorney. Because of him I am able to keep my job and I have a second chance and I just wanna say thank you to him

For someone who has never been in trouble with the law before I could not have asked for a better attorney to assist me. Family members of mine had used Tyler multiple times in the past (always with good outcomes) but I personally had not met him prior to earlier this year. Tyler was a very calming force in my state of panic after being arrested for the first (and hopefully last) time ever. His confidence, in a way, was very comforting. He is extremely knowledgeable as well as professional, which is evident both in his office and in the courtroom. He spent a good amount of time answering questions for me of the "what ifs" which were spinning around in my head with regards to what could happen. He also clearly put a significant amount of time in to researching my case and finding the best possible ways to assist me. He kept me well informed throughout every step of the legal process. Never once was I worried about what was going on with my case, or when we would need to appear in court, etc. At the end of the day, I could not have, and would not have asked for a better lawyer. If a criminal lawyer is what you're looking for, then look no further- you've found one of the very best out there.

I strongly recommend Mr Garretson. I was facing 142 months with a paid lawyer who wanted me to sign a plea deal for 7 years. I switched to Mr Garretson and with his help, expertise, advice and diligence I served 60 days in jail with 3 years probation. I now will be able to see my daughter grow into a beautiful young lady instead of coming home as a stranger. I would suggest his services to anyone because he stands for the people. He will go to war for you and that is what I needed with my life on the line. I would give him 10 stars if I could.

If you need an attorney, Tyler Garretson is the one for you. We know this because he represented a family member of ours on more than one occasion, and he always did an outstanding job. And I do mean outstanding! He is experienced. He knows the law inside and out, and he explains the procedures of the legal system in easy-to-understand terms. He knows the other people involved in the Johnson County, Kansas court system, and he has a good rapport with them. He doesn’t judge or look down on his clients. He is readily available for questions and he responds quickly to phone calls, emails and text inquiries. He is always prompt and prepared for court with all the necessary paperwork. On top of all that, he is a genuinely nice, humble, and caring person. If you need help in a legal situation, he will be your best advocate.

Our son has struggled with anxiety since he was approximately four years old. He has also been challenged academically and was diagnosed with ADHD in middle school. In efforts to support and advocate for our son we consulted with psychiatrists, psychologists and counselors for years. In middle school, our son began self medicating with drugs and alcohol, and this led to legal consequences. Trying to navigate the legal system became overwhelming, and fortunately, a friend with similar circumstances referred us to Tyler. Although similar situations are very prevalent in our community, amongst young people, parents do not share openly about this, so we were very grateful for the referral. We have continued to recommend Tyler to friends in need of legal assistance for their children. Tyler is a very congenial person, which was appealing as there is some shame and guilt associated with having a child that has broken the law. He has put legal ramifications in laymen terms and provided guidance and support. He has even been willing to connect with my husband and myself, after hours, and he seems to have empathy with the anxiety parent’s experience. Recently, we decided to hire Tyler rather than continue with our court appointed attorney. Once Tyler became involved our needs began to be met. Prior to Tyler’s assistance, we felt helpless and at the mercy of a confusing legal system. We continue to navigate the legal system, but feel more confident knowing Tyler is advocating for our son and our family.

Our teenage son had a lapse in judgment about a year ago and infringed on another teenage boy when overreacting to a practical joke. The other boy was not seriously hurt but the situation could have been more serious, so the boy's mother filed a police report even though she did not want to press charges. About four months after the incident we were informed the fire department was going to have the DA press charges despite our attempts to get our son into their fire safety class. The charge was a felony aggravated battery, which was over the top considering what actually happened. Within a few days after the complaint was delivered, we got a letter from Tyler informing us he was court-appointed to represent our son. We thought the charges were much more serious than warranted, but we walked into Tyler's office thinking we would just do a diversion. He was professional yet connected with us and our son and spoke like we had know each other for years. He explained the pitfalls of just accepting a diversion because the charge was so serious, and how that could impact our son if he made any stupid mistake while on diversion. Then he described a plan to have our son write a letter of apology, do 20 hours of community service, and complete the fire safety class so he could ask the DA to simply dismiss the charge. It was a process to get the fire safety class scheduled because the fire department was not cooperative, but Tyler kept us informed, connected us with another professional to complete a requirement for scheduling the class, and prodded the right people in the right way to finally get our son into the fire safety class. Our son completed the class shortly before Christmas, yet Tyler diligently put together a package for the DA and got the charge dismissed during two holiday shortened weeks. Tyler's professionalism and expertise gave us a much better outcome than first expected. He was responsive and helpful throughout the entire process. We highly recommend Tyler and will send anyone & everyone we know his way, knowing they will get great service as well!
