I am an IMG (internal tío al medical graduate) physician from Colombia. I came to this country not knowing the language 5 years ago. I was in the U.S. on a research scholar visa when I met my husband. He asked me to marry him, and we were very happy to be together. However, we thought that due to the two-year home residency requirement, that I would have to leave the U.S. for two years, and return to my home country before I would be able to return to the U.S. again. Jan and the other attorneys at Maggio-Kattar helped us through the long process of getting a waiver from both of our governments for the home residency requirement, and then through my residency, and finally to my naturalization ceremony. My husband and I are ecstatic at how it all turned out, and we are very appreciative to Jan's guidance throughout the process. I don't even know where to start. Jan Pederson is the BEST attorney you will ever meet. She not only means what she says and says what she means, but she puts her heart into her work as well. Jan Pederson changed my life. During a time in my life where I was under extreme pressure, had nobody to lean on, and was all alone she showed me the way and took care of my legal needs. She is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. She truly cares. She is familiar with many cultures and is highly ethical and honest. Calling her was the best decision I could make. I had applied to switch from OPT to J1 about 2 years ago. It was just silence since then. I asked so many lawyers what to do, all told me it was hopeless. They told me I had to wait and probably my request would be denied. I even hired 2 lawyers who helped a little with some paperwork and then didn't pick up the phone and stopped replying to my emails. Jan helped me with my immigration case many years ago but my experience of working with her has stayed with me since then.
