I worked with Duke Corliss on a real estate transaction and found his work unsatisfactory. He made several errors in the paperwork. We corrected them, but it felt sloppy and disrespectful of my time. He also didn't disclose his fees to me until the closing itself. One of the weirdest parts of working with Duke was that he charges $95 to send a wire transfer. When I've worked with other lawyers, wires are somewhere between $0-25. I asked why it was so expensive, and his paralegal told me that it's because the bank charges $20, and Duke charges $300/hr to physically visit the bank to initiate the wire transfer. It felt a bit absurd that in 2024, he's choosing the most labor-intensive way to perform a wire transfer and billing his clients $300/hr for the time it takes him to do it.
