I feel compelled to author my review after reading several reviews from fake clients/imposters or deadbeat whiners (yes you are the ones who typically end up being the deadbeat parents).
I went through a lengthy custody battle in Livingston County Courts, from 2004 to 2007. I am a male so I was already behind the 8 ball as almost every court in Michigan always gives advantage to the female. (how is that inclusive or equal? write your congress person) So I had to bring in some serious law power to make a solid attempt to get the custody I deserved. My daughters mom lied about everything on her questionnaire and the court actually believed all of it, so it was an interesting and long up hill battle. After this long duration Julia was able to get the agreement we set out to accomplish. All along this journey Julia and her office staff were nothing less than exceptionally professional. Her rates are comparable to other attorneys and her billing is very detailed. There is nothing hidden about what occurs during this time, other than many people are NOT PAYING ATTENTION to understand what you will be paying for. To say the least, there were no hidden charges and I was always billed for the time spent in court or for talking with Julia (or an attorney). As with any Business, there are no freebies. I would recommend Julia to any of my family or friends as she and her staff are simply THE BEST!!

I had a very disappointing experience with J. Black & Associates, P.L.C., particularly with their communication and billing practices. After paying $250 for a one-hour consultation with Attorney Bechtel, I decided not to proceed with their services. However, I was surprised to receive an invoice for $431.25, despite never signing an agreement with them or authorizing any additional services.
I disputed the charges, and while the firm adjusted the bill to $360, I still found it concerning that I was charged for interactions that were not clearly communicated as billable. Julia contacted me after I had already decided not to use their services to discuss my case further. During that call, I agreed to change a court date but ultimately chose to keep the original date without representation due to the potential risks. There was never any mention that discussing these changes would result in extra charges.
What’s most frustrating is that I was referred to this firm by a previous client who had positive experiences, which makes this situation even more disappointing. I never visited their office or met them in person, yet it seems they charge for every word exchanged. It’s sad and unprofessional to see lawyers prioritizing profit over transparency and trust.
I’d advise anyone considering this firm to confirm all fees and potential charges upfront. Make sure you understand exactly what will be billed, because apparently, even speaking to a receptionist could end up costing you.

Julia handled a case for me years ago. She was fantastic and didn't put up with any of their antics. I would use her again in a heartbeat!

In dealing with my mother's estate in Michigan and myself being in another state, I phoned to be asked to be included in a conference call as they went over her trust with the executor, my brother. I was told by the receptionist that would be done. The date and time came, and there was no phone call. I called and was informed that the meeting was delayed due to my brother being late, but they would call once he arrived. An hour later, I phoned again, only to be sent to voice mail. I called the receptionist, and she was surprised that the attorney, KYLE WALLACE, had not phoned and would look into the matter. Several hours passed before I received a call back from the attorney. At that time, he bold-faced lied and told me they had tried calling me. There were no missed calls on my phone. I had some questions I needed answered, in which he did not have the answers. He pathetically assumed that all was copistetic with my brother and had not really looked into all of the trust, "because he wasn't the one who set it up." Logically, this would be exactly why you would spend some time looking into it. In my opinion, this appears to be sloppy laziness and not what I would not want in the person I hired as my attorney. I had to deal with him because it who I was dealt but in seeking out a representative to handle my personal affairs I would never recommend nor employ someone with work ethics of this nature. I can't speak to the other attorneys there, and unfortunately, the attorney who actually did the trust is retired. I most certainly cannot recommend Kyle Wallace.

Lazy, wrote language into judgment of divorce to help her and ex wife's attorney try and take my home. Sent junior law partner into court that hurt my case when told details about the case ignored and acted without my consent. Over charges with "partial time charged" very little detail on billing.
