Actions – or lack thereof – speak louder than words. A two-month window of opportunity – of which the attorney was well aware – for decisive action and potential resolution of a longstanding issue was missed because for weeks at a time nothing happened unless I first checked in with his office (including a two-week lapse in forwarding communication from the opposing party)... Others at the firm were copied on my email queries so it’s no secret that he eventually stopped responding altogether after I’d provided feedback to a document along with the request that he ask one of his colleagues to provide additional review. Finally, I terminated the agreement. If the lawyer wasn’t up for the task he should have stopped billing and referred me elsewhere, and/or if there were mitigating circumstances for the ongoing lack of communication someone at the office should have let me know. In sum, no advantage for me in hiring this attorney. I’m out $1k, forced to regroup with a new attorney from downstate, and this longstanding issue will now remain unresolved for yet another year.

As a manager of a 501C3 educational nonprofit, a dispute between a State regulatory agency concerning license issues arose which required legal advice and represention. Through the Board of Directors and input from community leaders we sought an attorney with a reputation for knowledge, previous case experience and success with a case such as our organization presented. Our initial contact with the law firm of Numinen, Deforge and Toutant was extremely professional and productive. Attorney Numinen initiated a reassurance and informative meeting of which we left feeling hopeful and educatated concerning our upcoming legal needs. We also were thankful for the compassion he presented to these very nervous and novice clients about to begin a legal issue with the State. Due to nature of our our case Mr. Toutant would represent our organization. At our initial meeting Mr. Toutant gathered and presented information and facts concerning our case. He was extremely prepared with research into the laws/regulations concerning our issues. Presented was historical research, current research, advisement and relevant knowledge concerning the issue presented. We were given assignments for gathering information, and gaining support for our case. Upon leaving this meeting, we literally said "we have the right attorney." It is firmly believed that it is because of the dedication, insight, knowledge and presentation by Attorney Phillip Toutant, the resolve we sought was granted. The outcome of our case is a celebration to the employees, clients and community of which we depend and of which they depend on us.
