Run! John does not care about his clients. He only cares about your money. John couldn’t even pronounce my name right in court which was embarrassing all on its own. He makes you do “homework” so he doesn’t have to do the work. Double dips with his assistant. Does things procedurally wrong, manages to not file on time and lies. I was told by John that he wasn’t going to file until after the opposing counsels time was up to respond. Because of this it created me to have to spend more money. I was also told she doesn’t respond. I have a new attorney now and the opposing counsel responds very promptly. My ex and I have had to spend over 40,000 dollars on lawyer fees because of John. He doesn’t listen to your needs. He just wants to go to court so he gets paid more. I have found out from a friend that you can file a complaint on the Minnesota bar association website. I urge anyone else to do the same. Let’s stop this man! Please don’t be this mans next victim! Run as fast as you can away from him!

Don't walk. RUN! Be prepared to represent yourself, review and revise every word of your documents and have your retainer swallowed up quickly by unproductive visits, incidental emails and phone calls, and for him to "hire experts @ $5k" to come up with a protective clause which never makes it's way into your document. A couple of years since my divorce, I am back in mediation, and likely going to court, trying to undo what John advised was in my best interest. John wasn't interested in representing me, he was interested in blowing through my retainer and running up additional costs. Finally, I had to submit to my ex due to hemorrhaging funds.

Couldn't ask for a better Attorney, very knowledgeable and is not afraid to fight for what is right! Reccomend highly!

John successfully defended my case understanding fairness, and my rights under the law, not to mention his superior expertise vs opposing counsel. I was first recommended to John by a family member that had utilized John's services.. I initially retained John Burns for a custody case three years ago and continue to use him when needed; I have been extremely happy with his work! John has been knowledgeable, well-spoken, and has a strong court presence. John also prepared me for the realities of court and realistic expectations I should have. He clearly has a proficient understanding of custody laws and he is very skilled in all aspects of the court process, from writing motions, to stipulating agreements and arguing at a hearing. I wouldn't trust anyone else with the most important thing in my life, custody, the safety and well-being of my children.

I retained the law office of John Burns about 6 months ago. I was fighting back and forth about leaving a review, but decided it was a good decision to do so. That way, no one falls into the trap that I did. I chose Mr. burns based on a Google search. I was initially happy with my decision. But, my mind was swayed VERY shortly after meeting with him. Mr. Burns did not listen to my wishes as a client, and decided he would try and win something that was easier than what I wanted, which deducted from my retainer quickly. I was later asked to sign some release papers for a few things. There were sections missed on the papers 3 times. I had to come back into his office and sign them each time, because his office continued to made mistakes. I was then billed for these mistakes, and money was deducted out of my retainer. He then decided to play a game with the opposing attorney, of a back and forth email correspondence which also ate away at the initial $2500. I ran out of the retainer VERY quickly, and did not have the means to pay any more. Long story short, I would NOT recommend the Law Office of John Burns to anyone seeking legal counsel.

Unless you know the law and want to write a big check for little to no help...RUN find someone else

He expertly combed through my case files and explained to me what my options were and helped me develop a list of priorities according to my needs and wants. Having a lawyer willing to speak candidly with me worked well and allowed me to realistically focus on the items that would make the most positive impact in my child's life and my home. Through John's positive relationships with his fellow constituents and years of experience he was able to negotiate resolutions without dragging out final decisions and extending the timeline months or years out.
