Derek was extremely helpful throughout the entirety of my immigration process. He was very thorough, professional and and responsive. Consulted with Derek about my husband who was locked up by ICE. Because of the virus, we had to do this by video call. I paid the consult fee and we started. I emailed him the paperwork I had and he went over what the next steps were. I had questions after our consult ended, so I called back and he answers them. I did speak to two other attorneys, but both of them did not go into detail about what happens next. They didn’t seem to know as much as Derek did. The first time i spoke with derek decosmo i was behind bars and already had my mind made up to throw away 20 years of living in the united states because i thought i had no chance of winning my immigration case because i was coming from prison with a pretty extensive record. Although this firm specializes in immigration matters, I knew they handled criminal matters as well. I reached out and was able to get an appointment the same day I called. I sat with Derek, who reviewed my paperwork and discussed my options. Derek DeCosmo About 15 months ago, immigration officers arrested one of our parishioners in his home in the early hours of the morning. His wife and four children were witnesses to this arrest and came to the parish for help. I referred them to Derek DeCosmo who had helped us on many prior occasions. Our parishioner had been taken immediately to the Detention Center in Newark, NJ. Derek went there to meet him. He negotiated his release from custody, got him an employment authorization document, and license. In time, Derek was able to take our parishioner to Pennsylvania to have a prior criminal case dismissed. Throughout this entire process, Derek was available to the family and to our church community as we worked and prayed together for a just resolution for this family. My family came to America because I had a congenital heart defect that I was being treated for here. We ended up settling here after my treatment and in that time, our visa expired, which almost led to my father being deported.
