Joe Scanlon will never get back to you when you need him. Joe will seem as if he's a great attorney, nice and responsive so that you'll want to use him. But once he gets paid, his service declines about 90%. Think of him as a sleazy car salesman. He will not respond to calls, voicemails or emails. I've left him countless emails and voicemails and get the run around from his secretary every time. It could take weeks to get a response. We hired Joe to negotiate our contract and while negotiating, if Joe sees that it will be a slightly more difficult contract, or the buyer/sellers attorney pushes back on something, good luck getting him to put any more effort into the deal. Joe is one of the least responsive attorneys I've worked with. Not to mention, we felt very disrespected and continuously talked down to while we we're working with him. He projects his frustration onto his clients, which is unacceptable and not to mention, unprofessional. While trying to get ahold of him, he would bring up the amount that we paid, which is the amount he agreed on to negotiate the contract and basically said that the amount isn't worth his time to continue going the extra mile. I gave 2 stars because he at least was able to get the deal done, but i have to say that it was the most miserable and unenjoyable process. He also made us pay more to finish the contract after already having agreed on a price. This was our first home purchase and we we're really hoping that this would be a special and exciting process, but it was so far from that. I would continue looking for a different attorney if i we're you. He does not care about the client and only cares about the paycheck.

I was referred to Joe by my business associates. He is a phenomenal real estate lawyer. Needed additional help regarding the elderly & assets. Those were not specifics that he dealt with. Rather than shut me down. He promised to refer to someone else. Legit called within 5 minutes to give me that new information. He didn’t have to do that. It’s greatly appreciated— Jade

Worked with Joe to get into contracting on a condo in Jersey City. Joe was incredibe as a lawyer representing us and outside of lawyer duties, he fought for us in the negotiations and provided guidance on what is normal and nor normal. He was worth every penny. I told him at closing he did the most for us in the home buying process but did the least. I was only half kidding. He is a funny guy too and keeps it real.

Recently worked with Joe on purchasing our first home in Hoboken, NJ. He was very thorough and clear in explaining the process at the beginning and diligent as it unfolded, which gave us peace-of-mind as first timers. He as very responsive to emails, which really helped as we live many timezones away outside of the US. Net/net, I felt he was trustworthy and diligent and would recommend him.

I used Joe Scanlon for two real estate sales in Hoboken in the last year. He is now in his own firm- Scanlon & Scanlon, still in Hoboken. He was great. We communicated mostly via email, but spoke on the phone if necessary. He handled the negotiations and, of course the closings. He was knowledgeable, especially about Hoboken, and efficient. His fee was reasonable. I would recommend him highly.

If you want a responsive attorney, keep walking. He was recommended to me, took about 20 calls to get a response on a closing and he was paid for by me. i have purchased about 15 houses over the years so i know the process and do not need alot hand holding but getting any attention from him was torture.
