I recently went to court with Gerald Del Tufo Sr. on a pretty minor landlord/tenant situation; with me being the tenant. Del Tufo came into the proceedings totally unprepared, to the point where he asked me to come up with questions for both the plaintiff, as well as questions for him to ask me. My wife and I spent an hour the day before in his office, supposedly preparing for the case. Once we got to court, the first thing was arbitration. Del Tufo was such a bumbling fool, that I feel the case was lost at that point. Things got even worse in court. It was embarrassing to watch him... and he was my lawyer. He continually lost his train of thought and had to be instructed by the judge to "ask a question". The bulk of the case was about the last 3 months of rent. I had moved out, and was actually not even in the state for the last month. the landlord knew it and I had a folder of receipts to back me up, yet, Del Tufo was unable to negate that month, in fact, he didn't even use the documents he was provided. Unfortunately, when I signed the lease in 2000, I signed as a guarantor, along with my corp. He was supposed to make a motion before court, to get me name off, but he never did. He had no preparation for the case, what-so-ever. I paid him for his service. I had no aspersions that I would walk away unscathed, but it should not have been as bad as it turned out. I'm not upset because I lost; I'm upset because I paid him to represent me, and he didn't. The only thing that he did for me was show up... and even late, to boot.
