Traveling with my medically fragile granddaughter for the first time since the pandemic ended, I knew there were stretches across New Mexico and that if she got in trouble, we were to far for medical help. I knew I was going to do 80 even though the speed limit on I-10; heading east was slightly less than that. When I came over the hill i was watching the speedometer to ensure the downhill momentum did not take me past that. That is when I saw the patrol car in the median and he immediately pulled me over. He said he clocked me at 89. I immediately said, “you mean 80.” He said he did not want to argue with me. He asked me if I wanted to pay the fine or go to court. I said court. I admitted to speeding at 80, but no way was I going to get railroaded and pay a fine for 89. I hired Glenn Smith Valdez and he ensured I got a fair trial and the judge dismissed the case.
