When you marry the wrong person, choosing an attorney to represent you throughout your divorce becomes even more important than choosing the right person to marry. Our divorce was contentious from the get go, with constant conflict creation on one side, requiring emotion management on the other (grins sheepishly). I knew the type of attorney I was looking for, and after interviewing several others who also came highly recommended, I knew this practice was different, and checked most of the items on my list. The office was warm and welcoming, the staff was personable and professional, and the attorneys were smart and assertive, as well as compassionate. I got a strong family vibe from our first meeting, and just knew I would ultimately be well taken care of. Although I had originally hired Mary Ann, somewhere towards the end of the first year of our 4 year journey together, Michael became very involved, eventually taking the lead on all of our financial matters; he knew his stuff and explained it well. Often times when we had an important court date, both Michael and Mary Ann would be there to advise me, although I was never charged for this extra support. In fact, all of their billing was clear and fair, albeit all too frequent (grins sheepishly again). Although I had my family by my side the entire time (who the practice also welcomed with open arms), I genuinely appreciated the candor that came from these mother and brother figures; I didn’t always like what they had to say, but they were always right. There was a lot of bullsh*t to cut through, and not being able to see the forest for the trees throughout most of this tumultuous time, I would say that their ability to do so was ultimately their most influential attribute. The system is a mess, and Michael and Mary Ann’s knowledge and experience, integrity and honesty, respectability, presence, advocacy and creativity saved me a lot of anguish. The process was still torturous, but Michael and my “team” were always available, reliable, efficient, thorough, professional, diligent, organized, and laser focused on the finish line, while opposing counsel would have preferred to run a perpetual marathon. I will forever be grateful to their practice for their efforts and accomplishments, as well as for the role they played in my own personal growth, turning an impossible and painful situation into an opportunity for a better life. I commend them on a job extremely well-done, as settling this particular divorce was no small feat.

Because of her efforts, I received a very favorable Social Security disability insurance claim with back pay and a substantial increase in my Social Security benefits.
