Ira Newman was my attorney in a very difficult employment matter. Exceptional, because he fully understood the nuances of my situation and through extensive negotiations with the lawyers for the other side achieved a fine result for me. On a personal level, Mr. Newman is both empathetic to his client’s concerns, listens, is very open to discussions about the pros and cons of various courses of action, and is comfortable and at home with recognizing and acting upon complex legal issues.

Very happy client. Attorney Ira S. Newman successfully represented me and two other plaintiffs in a complex federal labor law action resulting in an excellent financial settlement. Any time I called his firm with a question, I was able to speak with Mr. Newman or he would call me back the same day. He was extremely thorough and explained both the law and his strategy with us in easily understood layman’s terms. The opposing lawyers was a law firm in Manhattan. Mr. Newman took time to explain the complexities of the law in reference to my case and didn't even charge for that time. Knowing that our case when it came to winning was going to be based on the few anomalies we decided to sit back and see how other aspects of the case were going to play out. Throughout the process Mr. Newman was very understanding and available. His administrative assistants are very helpful in passing messages to his staff and were able to provide any thing that I needed; which is hard to find these days.

I hired Mr. Newman when a professional school in which I was enrolled had taken unwarranted proceedings against me. His representation, which involved a court proceeding against the school, was instrumental (indeed, indispensable), in reaching a result that was most favorable to me. This firm has litigated my case extremely effectively. On my initial meeting which was supposed to be $250- he decided my fee should be 4 hours worth of work at $325-- and expected me to turn over full payment of $1550 for work he hadn't even started yet! When I reacted quite shocked he said-- okay I will lower it to three hours. When again I pushed back saying it seemed like a lot of time for a standard severance agreement he responded - "it could even be 2 and 1/2 hours". !! It seems clear to me that he was jacking up his fees for work he had not even begun to do- without even having a clear understanding about what it would entail. There's a reason why he hasn't been reviewed since 2010. Run. Away. Fast.
