When I decided to get divorced I knew it would be difficult to find an attorney who would have to courage to take on my husband, a divorce attorney for 28 years and a sitting judge. I had contacted several attorneys in different counties who were willing to take my case, but after meeting with them, I just wasn't comfortable. Finally, a friend suggested that I contact Steven Nussbaum in New Paltz. I fully expected him to turn my case away, he did not. My ex-husband hired an attorney who is also a part time judge. It was Steven against two judges. The divorce was very public, very contentious and difficult at every turn. During the entire process Steven was beyond professional. When our opposition tried to twist the case to make it more dramatic, Steven told me we would stay the course, focus on the facts of the law. When our opposition made outrageous accusations in court in an attempt to steer away from the facts, Steven again, stayed the course. When I felt like I could not possibly get a fair trial, Steven kept reminding me to have faith in the justice system. My case went all the way to the New York State Court of Appeals, something Steven was preparing for during the entire process. He fought for my rights every step of the way, while taking a lot of criticism from the legal community for representing me. Not only did he win our case in the Court of Appeals, he restored my faith in the justice system in the process.
