Jay Meyers was referred to me by another bankruptcy lawyer who did not want to take on my case (too complicated, of course). Jay came very highly recommended. No one ever plans to get into financial problems and become financially desperate but life happens. Those who experience this know that it is both physically and mentally crippling - the amount of stress can become unbearable. It really feels like the end of the world. Never in a million years did I think I would ever have to file for bankruptcy but if I was ever going to file for bankruptcy boy am I glad that Jay was my lawyer. He really is the whole package! Jay has over 30 years of experience in his field, is fairly priced, and well-intentioned. I am one of those people that has an annoying amount of questions because I need to understand what and why I am doing things - Jay was always available to answer my many questions, always patient with me, explained everything to me in a way that simplified complicated things, and never made me feel like I was a burden. More importantly, he really helped me in my path to psychological recovery - I went from feeling like a failure (I felt like I failed my wife and kids), feeling embarrassed of myself, and from a nervous wreck to someone who was still struggling financially but was mentally healthier. Jay gave me reassurance and he also gave me hope! He helped me understand that there is a life past all of this and that he would help me get to a better place. AND HE DID! Before I share the results of my case below, please don't kid yourselves. Yes - at the end of the day the results are what everyone remembers but let me tell you the journey to the results is equally as important. I hired Jay Meyers to handle a case for me. He gave me assurances this was an easy case for him to handle and in the worst case scenario I still had another option, I did not need to worry. At the first court appearance he did not appear, his supposed partner did not appear but an attorney he got from another attorney who knew nothing about this case which led to a default and allowed the plaintiff to immediately request to schedule a sale date to foreclose. I immediately ask Jay to return my retainer but he refused. He assured me this outcome could be a good thing and they he/they could file a better motion, I need not worry. It wasn’t until a week later that I finally spoke to another attorney that he just hired to handle the case. Over a month went by before a motion was finally filed and during that time a sale date was scheduled. This was my worst fear. The motion was denied by the judge. The other option of which I asked him about initially what the cost would be, he said he wasn’t worried because we would work it out. Yet now he requires a payment of over $20,000 before he would file or do anything else to protect me. He misrepresented me, was unprofessional and has put me in the worst position imaginable.
