I received a speeding ticket in North Carolina for driving 93 in a 55 mph zone. Since I live out of state, I hired the Ticket Clinic to represent me, paying $500 upfront to begin the process. Initially, I received a letter stating that my case was postponed due to court backlogs, with a promise of follow-up on the new court date. However, I was later informed by the state of North Carolina that my license was suspended in the state for one year, along with a $248.81 fine for speeding. Additionally, I received four points on my license. While I understand that legal services cannot guarantee a dismissal, when paying a significant upfront fee, there is a reasonable expectation of effective representation. The Ticket Clinic failed to deliver on that. For a first speeding offense, these penalties—suspension, fines, and license points—seem excessive. I trusted the legal service to advocate on my behalf, but instead, I am facing severe consequences that could have been mitigated with proper representation.
