Potential bias against fathers in custody cases
“My new attorneys first questions to me were, 'are you on drugs?' 'Do you have a criminal record?' 'Do you have a history of domestic violence?' 'Do you have prior DWI's/DUI's?' 'Have you been to prison?' To which all of these questions, the answer is no. When I asked why she was asking me this, my current attorney stated that my current consent order is the most restricted one she's seen. Because of that, she assumed I was on drugs, or had a troubled past.”
