I am very grateful for Barri's (and her staff) help over more than a year working with her. My separation was not one I wanted, but worked with my wife’s management of our relationship. After talking to a few attorneys it was clear Barri was aligned with my goals of protecting the well-being of my children, and not getting emotionally involved in the process. I was crystal clear on my terms around what I would fight for, and she translated that into a separation agreement that benefited my kids and their futures. She is a thoughtful, caring, kind, and intelligent professional and person. She is highly respected in the Triangle and that was apparent during our mediations. I highly recommend consulting Barri if you need help.

Ms. Payne represented me in a Separation and Divorce proceeding. despite the process taking longer than expected I appreciate her attention to detail and professionalism during the course of it. her legal knowledge and expertise allowed me to retain enough of my financial assets that I could rebuild my life.

We did Will, HPOA, Living Will, and DPOA. I had a unique living situation and I told Barri exactly what I wanted (I was not even sure it was something that could be done) and she did the research and was able to get me everything I wanted and the legal security that was SO IMPORTANT to us. Barri helped me with a very difficult and lengthy case. She treated me with empathy and made a difficult process manageable for me. I appreciated her ethics even when things got tough. She is extremely knowledgeable and always kept on top of the many details of the case. She thinks ahead and is prepared for multiple scenarios at any given time. I can't speak highly enough of her! Barri (and Windy) are pleasant and easy to work with. But don't let that affability fool you. They are both incredibly capable and effective: tough when needed, but in a sensible way. I cannot recommend this practice enough.

At the point when I came to Barri, I was going through a separation/divorce that I didn't want and had tried my human best to avoid. But having initially believed that we could handle our situation without 'getting attorneys involved', I was so overwhelmed by my circumstances and emotions I came to believe that I needed the advice of an attorney to make sure that our circumstances were addressed in a manner that best met the needs of my son and me. I asked around and received responses ranging from: "She's easy to work with and reasonable," to "Barri's your attorney? You'll be fine, don't worry." (These comments came from members of the triangle legal community-folks with no vested interest in guiding me toward nor away from Payne Family Law). Her rates were reasonable, her responses very timely, and above all else she and her staff provided me with the validation and advocacy that helped assure me that I was making the best I could of a bad situation for the sake of my son. She's a compassionate and staunch advocate for children and for her clients.

Barri & Elizabeth were top notch. Her experience showed in her decisions, advice, and representation. They were available, attentive, and listened to my needs. They were also sympathetic and understood my emotional situation. I would highly recommend Barri.

Awesome lawyer

I'm an attorney practicing since 1999. I chose Mrs. Payne to handle my separation and divorce proceedings. She was very easy to talk to about very difficult terms of my separation agreement, which is important at the beginning of one of the most trying times of my life. She handled everything, from drafting, filing, and dealing with my spouse’s legal counsel. When it came to the divorce, I didn’t have to do anything, she handled it all. She works electronically, so we had very few face to face meetings. She was compassionate, empathetic, competent, and dependable. That is what I needed and she was right there. I highly recommend Ms. Payne for divorce proceedings.
