Karen was very reassuring when I initially met her. Took time to listen to my concern and was able to provide very clear and concise advise. No fake promises. Clearly explained potential options. I would highly recommend Karen.

We hired Karen and found her perpetually unprepared and completely outmatched by the counterparty's attorney. They failed to submit the petition to the court in the correct county. She did not know the details of the Read to Achieve laws, even though that's exactly what we were discussing and what she said she knew and had successfully helped other families in the past on. She and her colleague appeared before a school board with hand written notes and she failed to communicate coherently to the board leading to failure. In court, at the "make or break" hearing, they were again unprepared, and failed to make even a simple argument to the court (and still had failed to withdrawal the previously noted incorrect filing from the incorrect county court). Finally after a discussion with the school I negotiated a settlement and terms, in 15 minutes, that she failed get done in the past. We spent ~$20,000 with her with few or no measurable results. I could never recommend her or her firm and I would recommend Google or simply call the NC DPI department instead yourself.

I have walked out of many attorney offices thinking I just got robbed of $150 PLUS. So I always do my research before hiring an attorney in the future or a must need now attorney. Her hourly fees are very fair. Karen does not make promises she cannot deliver, but can give you the best outcomes and the worse outcomes so you are prepared. Karen also states that someone will always get back to me one way or another and in some legal situations you have to have patience. Because it can take time. For an attorney to take the time to tell me this, is truly an honest attorney that will do her very best and make you feel like you are being taken care of. Will recommend to anyone who may need an attorney!

Karen was able to fit us into an already full scheduled day with court proceedings and other client cases. She answered all of our questions. Karen has a strong passion for children, especially ones with disabilities like our child. We felt right at home, yet we felt like we were in a professional environment. She is very down to earth, understanding, great empathy, tells you like it is, and helps us understand that it's a process in Education Law. I would highly recommend her to anyone with education questions or any other types of law she has experience in.

Karen has helped us in more ways than one. Our child recently got into trouble and she did not beat around the bush. She told it like it is or could be. She helped us understand all of the potential options and what she would do her very best for. She did not make promises she could not keep and shows more experience than many attorneys who have practiced for more than decade. I would recommend her office to anyone.

Most lawyers don't take the time to really help you understand your options, they just want to get done the fastest. Karen took the time to explain all of my options, good or bad so I could make an informed choice.

VERY DISSAPOINTED IN ATTORNEY VAUGHN. MY NEW & CURRENT ATTORNEY TOOK LESS THAN 3 DAYS TO DO MORE FOR OUR CASE THAN SHE DID IN 3 MONTHS. SHE ALSO SENT HER PARTNER TO A SCHEDULED MEETING. HER PARTNER WAS UNPREPARED AND UNFAMILIAR WITH OUR COMPLAINT. SHE SEEMED FRAZZLED AND MY HUSBAND & I DID SIGNIFICANTLY MORE TALKING & DEFENDING OF OURSELVES THAN THIS ATTORNEY. WE PAID A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT UPFRONT AND THE MONEY WAS SPENT ON EMAILS (SHE CHARGES FOR ALMOST EVERY EMAIL WRITTEN & READ). I HAD ONE INVOICE THAT SHOWED THE EXACT # OF EMALS AND HOW MUCH TIME SHE SPENT ON THEM. THESE EMAILS PRIMARILY WERE IN) REGARDS TO WHETHER THERE HAD BEEN ANY CONTACT WITH THE OTHER PARTY IN THE CASE. WEEKS WOULD GO BY WITHOUT ANY UPDATES. WHEN I EMAILED HER, I ALMOST ALWAYS GOT A BLANKET RESPONSE SAYING THEY WERE PLAYING PHONE TAG WITH THE OTHER ATTORNEY. AFTER THREE MONTHS, WE DECIDED TO HIRE NEW REPRESENTAITON, WHO HAS BEEN MUCH MORE PROFESSIONAL & MUCH MORE AFFORDABLE. HE HAS ALREADY DONE MORE TO DEFIEND OUR CASE, AND MAKE CONTACT WITH THE OTHER PARTY'S ATTORNEY WITHIN 3 DAYS.

I received a fix-it ticket from the marine patrol on Lake Norman over a recent holiday weekend... My ticket clearly stated that the fines were not due for over a year so I did not even think of paying it til I was required.... Well the state of North Carolina saw it differently and issued a warrant for my arrest when they thought I should pay my fix it ticket fine when they wanted me to and not what my ticket clearly stated.... I hired Karen Vaughn to represent me in this matter immediately once I found out that a warrant was issued for my arrest... She was very quick and very knowledgeable to the laws of North Carolina and also went to the judge who issued the warrant and immediately got the warrant rescinded until my official court date... She is such a good lawyer I didn't even have to show up for court and was able to keep my small business running and not have to worry about court appearances, she handled all that for me... Best part is I got all charges dismissed, an apology from the court and of course all fines dismissed! I couldn't have asked for a better judgement in my small court case! Karen Vaughn went above and beyond what I thought I would get as legal representation and would recommend her to anyone and everyone who wants a professional, intelligent and knowledgeable lawyer on their side! I will definitely use her again if I ever need representation in court for me or any of my family. I know I have one of the best Lawyers in North Carolina on my side and that is a wonderful feeling to have in situations like that.

Without a shadow of a doubt I would recommend Karen Louse Vaughn as your lawyer. She takes the time to know you. Is very sincere when she speaks to you about the facts at hand. While going through a Legal Separation she let me know it like it is. Knowing that helped me understand what I needed and to win the case. She goes the extra mile to keep you informed. As a former client, I'm very grateful that I chose Karen Vaughn as my lawyer.
Very blessed to have found Karen Vaughn and will use her time and time again. Thank you Karen for a great job.

I hired Patricia to defend my case. She agreed to defend my case. Took payment. And stated she would defend my case and not hand it over to her associate attorney that she had hired. I went over my case with Patricia. Patricia turned my case over to Karen at a critical time. Karen and Patricia never notified me that Karen was handling my case. A few days before my case was to be heard, Patricia stated she was going to be in court with me to defend my case. The day of my case Patricia was no where to be found. Karen came out with a plea deal and stated "We have never had a client that was not guilty." Karen was unprepared to defend my case. I do not recommend them.

Ms. Vaughn is a knowledgeable and competent attorney, and one of the very few attorneys specializing in education law in North Carolina. Her background as a special education teacher in the public schools is invaluable to her deep understanding of the issues faced by parents with special needs children in the public schools. Ms. Vaughn was able to prepare as an expert witness in a child custody case for which my child’s IEP and educational setting was an important factor. I would highly recommend Ms. Vaughn as a true special needs child advocate.
