My experience is a little blah. I have documentation that I have collected for 8 months including recorded conversations as I am being discriminated against for a disability on a government program and was told that they cannot help me, but directed to me contact a legal clinic to see if they can. My intake call lasted 11 minutes. So based solely on my experience, I'm not sure what they help with.

It's difficult to get through intake. But the attorneys are literally super heroes. There is an immense power imbalance. Not having money to pursue legal action denies citizens their due process civil rights in a sense. Legal aid directly saved my family's life by advocating for our rights and providing legal advice and services. My entire apartment building was saved from another long winter of potentially deadly carbon monoxide poisoning solely due to legal aids attorney's dedication to clients needs and safety.

Cleveland's Legal Aid Society, is the BEST, hands down, when it comes to questions, or receiving help, and support. I have not volunteered with this organization in a while, but I love their services. The staff truly cares about the individuals they help.

They only take on cases based on their Limited Financial Resources. If you don't have full details of your situation you have a poor chance of being selected for representation by them. An awful lot of needy people go without help and legal situations because they will only help with certain legal situations. You have to be knowledgeable about the legal system in order to be able to present your situation to their liking.

They barely answer the phone and rarely provide any legal representation. Everything is not covered such as help with traffic court, housing evictions, etc. Anything they do cover they only want to refer to outside govt agencies or allow a counsel to do a phone consult for minimum advice.
