I hired N.P. Weiss to draft a contract based on a phone conversation where he stated that his services would likely cost $500 and that he typically requires a $1,000 retainer, refunding any unused portion. Trusting his explanation, I proceeded to hire him. However, after the work was completed, he informed me that the $1,000 was a flat fee, with no refund for unused time. This directly contradicted what he had stated during our initial phone call. While his letter of engagement indicated a flat fee, I skimmed it under the assumption it would reflect the terms we discussed. When I brought this discrepancy to his attention and requested a refund of the $500 difference, he refused, standing by the flat fee stated in the letter. He sent me an breakdown of time spent on this contract, which indicated his team had spent nearly 10 hours on this quite simple contract. Even with all that time spent, the first version of the contract I was sent contained multiple glaring errors I had to point out. I feel this was misleading and demonstrates a lack of transparency and fairness. I cannot recommend N.P. Weiss Law to anyone, due to this dishonest approach to billing. If you choose to work with him, I urge you to thoroughly review any agreements and avoid relying on verbal assurances.
