Outstanding Divorce/Child Custody Lawyer – Highly Recommend! My case involved a divorce with children, filed by my ex-husband who lives in Ohio, while I reside in Minnesota. Despite my ex-husband and his lawyer insisting that the case should include child custody and be handled in Ohio, Catherine, who was well-versed in child custody laws, raised a key issue: under the UCCJEA (Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act), Ohio did not have jurisdiction over the children. The opposing party continued to push for a trial involving both the divorce and child custody in Ohio, even though this was legally improper. Ultimately, Catherine and I prevailed, as it was determined that Ohio lacked jurisdiction over the children under the UCCJEA. As a result, the divorce was finalized without any decisions made about custody, which would be addressed in Minnesota instead. I am so grateful for the exceptional legal support I received from Catherine during my divorce. Going through such a difficult and emotional time was incredibly stressful, but she made the entire process so much easier to navigate. Catherine was my husband's attorney for his custody issue, so naturally I went to her when I was faced with my own custody dilemma. My ex decided to file for custody shortly after getting a reviewed child support order from the state. Stated a change in circumstances as the reason. After speaking to him, he had a pile of excuses as to why. Which none of them made sense. He lives out of state, the kids are the ones who reach out to their father, and they also made it very clear to him that they didn't want to move. After that I knew immediately that I had to call Catherine. She made sure to give me everything I needed to proceed and what actions we were going to take next. Catherine made every effort to work things out prior to going to a court hearing. After filing, my ex finally decided (after 2 years) to be active and a concerned father, so opposing counsel was not having it. They were confident they had a good enough case to have the kids returned to their dad. They didn't even care of the emotional/mental stress it was causing for the kids. But Catherine had the children's best interest as her #1 priority.  The day of the 1st court hearing, Catherine was able to get an issue resolved before we went into the courtroom, but everything else we had to get the courts approval. She requested a GAL right off the bat, especially after my ex threw in some accusations that he thought would help his case. It didn't. Shortly after the hearing, I received a notice that my ex would no longer be represented by his law firm. He actually dropped his case, and to much surprise, gave me sole custody of the children! Then went back to his old ways. Not reaching out to the kids, contacting the schools, coaches etc...  I don't know what magic happened but I know I couldn't have gotten as far as I did without Catherine. She stood firm, and kept a tight hug on my family. She watched all of us grow over the course of 2 years. She is fun to talk to, lends an ear when you need it. Even will give tough love. I was in a tough spot. After lots of disagreements and tough months leading into tough years, there was only one way forward with my then partner of 13 years. Having two children, and sharing a home with ex-partner, it was looking and feeling bleak, to think that everything was about to change for the worse. My ex didn’t want to offer me equal shared parenting time of the two children that I’d lived with, loved and raised their whole lives(11 years and 7 years old). I hadn’t done anything wrong, we’d just grown apart. It felt very unfair and painful. I resolved that I had to get an attorney to stand up for me and help me protect my time with my children.
