I ended up going to court due to unfortunate circumstances with my car being stolen while I was in grad school. Even as a grad student I made sure I maintained minimum car insurance. Well due to my car being stolen, I did not have money to fix the bad damage and because the insurance company would do nothing to help me get repairs I cancelled with them and took my lump sum of money I used to pay them up front for my coverage.
Well, after coming back to Ohio I realized I'd been asked for verification of insurance, which I hadn't had since the car theft incident. Went to court about it, paid my reinstatement fees to make my license valid again and even plead "no contest" at the arraignment hearing. I was told then that once I did this that I would be fine and would not need to appear in court again.
Well, low and behold two months go by and I'm suddenly pulled over by a random police officer while on a routine trip to take my step mother to the grocery store. The police officer was extremely rude and looked as if he'd just graduated the police academy two days ago. Had a very big chip on his shoulder like most of the officers here in Middletown. Ended up spending time in jail since he claims I had a warrant out for a DUS which was originally cleared up in the hearing I mentioned above.
Turns out Miss Ashley Bretland didn't record my original plea during the hearing and the courts issued a warrant out for my arrest because to them it appeared the case was still pending when in actuality it was her stupidity. Adding insult to injury, when I appeared again in front of the judge to defend myself, stating that I did in fact enter a plea of "No Contest" she denied that I had. How could I have been authorized to have my drivers license reinstated BY THE COURTS if I didn't put in a plea??? She's a ditz and should be fired from practice. To add insult to injury I had to pay court costs because she didn't do her job the first time.
And when I corrected her in court by letting the judge and her know that I had official documents to show I had in fact been able to reinstate my license due to the courts allowing me to do so, she immediately changed her tune to agree with me....meh the Ohio court system is one big circus filled with people who should be fired for unprofessional work and incompetency. The day I move out of Ohio to pursue my PhD, the better. Never want to come back to this Godforsaken backwater wasteland.
