The hospital insisted that we had to do a Guardianship instead of a Power of Attorney for my sister even though she was well within her capacity to direct assistance. Providence Hospital recommended Jason Broesder to us to do the paperwork. In retrospect, it should have been a red flag but we had no choice and I lived out of the area.
I had one email from the attorney stating that the fee to start services was $750. There was no follow-up clarification on what I should expect to be charged for the final bill. Or if there was a point at which they call and let you know the number of hours they have worked on the process and the corresponding charges. Several months later I received a final bill for almost $2,000 and it did not show my original payment of $750.
I called the office to get an idea of what was going on and the receptionist said: "You must have heard wrong about our fees". I responded and said, "I'm looking at the email about your fees and nowhere is there any clarity on what you planned to charge. Are you saying I cannot read?"
The bottom line is that I needed to get a Guardianship for my sister. I would have paid the fees for Jason Broesder because I didn't really have a choice in order to assist my sister. But the way this company works is that they will charge you for a lawyer working on the file when it is actually a paralegal. You will never talk to Jason Broesder on the phone. But you will be charged for the phone tag you will play for several days. They will not tell you the full costs of getting a guardianship paperwork in advance. And when you talk about any issue with the billing they will say the following...
"Whether you choose to use our services in the future is up to you.
Best Regards, Jason Broesder"
Meanwhile, think through what does Providence get for insisting you have to get Guardianship paperwork instead of a Power of Attorney. And think why they insist you use Jason Broesder? Why does this company prey on families without any options who are also in distress? And why is their client communication so bad?
