A big firm in San Francisco recommended Dan Stotter when I'd exhausted all other avenues. I'm a journalist and author by trade, and had a FOIA request that was blatantly ignored by a government agency. I needed help, but lawyers were reluctant to go the distance given that I had limited funds. They also weren't sure that my request rose to the level of the public's need-to-know. Well, Stotter believed in it, and carefully yet forcefully got the government to fulfill its legal obligations. He is forthright, professional, and clear. I highly recommend Daniel Stotter, and while I hope I never have reason to use his services again, I hope others will.

My experience with attorney Mr. Daniel Stotter has been exemplary. His knowledge of the FOIA process in dealing with the U.S. State Department is vast and very detailed. His level of compassion and understanding on a human level is great, as my FOIA concerns the tragic death of my only sister and her unborn child, in a foreign country. There are many challenges when one files a FOIA request and Mr. Stotter's guidance and legal expertise in this area of law is invaluable. I am very confident with his representation the outcome will be successful. I highly recommend him !

I have worked with Daniel Stotter on more than 30 FOIA lawsuits during the past 12 years. As the representative for two non-profit organizations, it is my opinion that Mr. Stotter is extremely knowledgeable regarding all aspects of FOIA law and is one of the best (if not THE BEST) FOIA attorneys in the U.S. Mr. Stotter’s professionalism and ethics are beyond reproach. He communicates well and is very organized. Mr. Stotter has never lost a case as our attorney and I highly recommend him.

Daniel and his team are exceptional. They have helped me obtain records from the CIA, NSA, and other federal agencies. Those records have featured in both my scholarship and reporting. In addition, Daniel has schooled me in the complex world of FOIA. I still work with Daniel, and I intend to use his services for as long as he is in business.

If you have a different view to Mr Stotter and you express it, rather than calmly and professionally explain his reasoning, he terminates any agreement to represent you. Personally, I feel like I was saved from making a huge mistake. I will always ask questions and voice my opinions. Mr Stotter doesn't like that. He wants to you to shut up, take his advice as God's word, and pay him ridiculous retainer fees.

Mr Stotter used language that was clearly unprofessional and qualified as religious hate speech... I'm in the process of filing a complaint with the bar association. For instance he suggested I had Christian brain rot and then addressed me as Mr Jesus. All this simply because identified my faith as being Christian. If you're looking for an ethical lawyer I suggest looking elsewhere.

Mr. Stotter has handled my daughter's CRBA (Consular Report of Birth Abroad) case successfully; this was a very challenging case during almost 4 years.
He helped me retrieve my FOIA records and really used his professionalism to deal with a US Consulate overseas; his support and advice were very relieving (I was so desperate ) despite the distance from where I live ( Maryland ) I really felt myself very close to him during the whole process.
I really recommend Mr.Stotter to anyone who has a serious matter.
I greatly appreciate his professionalism.

Many years ago, not too long into Dan's legal career, my wife and I hired him for an "OJ" case; a criminal case that had to be pursued through civil means. Although the alleged crimes involved white collar offenses rather than violent offenses, the emotions and confrontational feelings were extreme and the case was quite complex. (Eventually appealed to the Oregon Supreme Court.) We won about 90% of the verdict. Dan's performance in this difficult case was outstanding. He was knowledgeable, cool, thoughtful, able to work under pressure, and creative. Our experience with him as an attorney was very good.

Mr. Stotter recently assisted me with some advice regarding a complex legal matter. I found him to be responsive and exceptionally knowledgeable about key cases in the field. He offers a free consultation that breaks down your legal issues into ones that are clear to understand. I would definitely contact him again and recommend to others.

Mr. Stotter displayed characteristics that are not typical of the average attorney, he provided straight forward, direct, and honest feedback and opinions of a described FOIA issue during the free consult he provided. He also displayed flexibility in examining options that would be available for him to interject on behalf of the client at various stages of the process. I have dealt with many attorneys, and say that I highly recommend this one.
