I’m sad to see that someone else has had the same experience that I had with Laura and the rest of her pathetic scum of the earth firm. These people are leeches and will turn your life upside down out of sheer incompetence and bad breath.

Laura Rackner is by far the best attorney I've ever worked with. She is fair, firm and extremely knowledgeable. She was very comforting during a very difficult time and always gave me confidence in her answers and approach with my case. I would highly recommend her to anyone.

Had hired her but ended up getting her junior partner when it came for court time who could not even write a decent court document for the case. Also she kept giving bad advice putting my children and myself in danger. After finally switching to a less known but very competent and effective lawyer who listened to my concerns. Ms. Rackner would not believe all the things I was telling her and had to get 2 witnesses to talk with her who were professionals to have her even consider that going back to an abusive home was out of the question. She would not be my choice for an abusive situation or if there is any mental health problem in a divorce case.

I hired Laura to assist me with a divorce modification, and during the ~ 9 month period I considered her my attorney, I would often find that she wouldn't have bothered to review my case so that she could speak to me in specifics, and there were even times when she didn't remember my name. For most of that 9 month period she was having me "give my ex enough rope to hang himself with", ie I was just supposed to sit and document our interactions. When my ex-husband filed small claims papers against me, I informed Laura, and she instructed me to send her the documents (which I did) and that we would get the matter "rolled up" into the modification. I tried to reach her for 4 weeks. When I was finally able to speak with her, she didn't seem to have any recollection of me or my case, and when I refreshed her memory (at $400 an hour) she started back pedalling and was extremely defensive, rather than admitting she had made a mistake and suggesting possible courses of action to remediate the error. Now I have a small claims judgment against me because she didn't respond within the allotted 14 day time period, am out over $8,000 in fees to her, and lost the window to file paperwork so that the process would be completed in time for a new school year meaning I and my children are spending another school year apart.
June 2017 note - I posted this review over a year ago and it was recently taken down by Avvo because Ms. Rackner apparently claimed I was never a client. Am reposting and would happily provide copies of all of the billings she sent me!

Laura is a seasoned professional with an excellent professional reputation in the Portland community. She is capable and competent with litigated and cooperative divorce cases. What most impresses me is Laura's caring and personal approach. In my experience, she deeply cares about the families that she serves and goes the extra mile to help them. Laura has the rare combination of professional excellence and accolades from peers with humility and caring for her clients. She has my respect and highest endorsement!
