Fitzwater Law was referred to us by a friend. We are looking into how to best help our father, who has been diagnosed with mild/moderate dementia. This was our first step and, in reality, we just want to understand Elder Law in terms of our father. The assistant to the lawyer we were referred to really didn't help, even as I was having a hard time explaining that we needed counsel with next steps for his life (assisted living, medicaid, power of attorney, his rights as an elder in his household). She told me they didn't deal with Elder Law (it's on their website) and, when I asked if she knew of another firm that does, she just said "no." I don't need to relate how that felt. Maybe I asked the wrong questions.

This firm was recommended by a friend and I am very pleased with their work. My attorney, Emily Hogan, was knowledgeable, organized, and a great communicator. She updated my complete estate package, including special needs trusts, living trusts, and all associated documents to switch my house, car, investments, etc. To the new trust. The "to do list" was especially helpful. The firm's employees were wonderful. I accidentally arrived for my appointment on the wrong day, and they graciously made it work, without causing me any embarrassment. This is the best firm I have dealt with, and I highly recommend them.

When I asked our financial advisors for lawyers who create Special Needs Trusts, they gave me three names. All three of them referred me to Melanie Marmion. Melanie helped us understand how this kind of trust works and what we need to do to assure it meets the needs of our child. We worked remotely for the most part which was efficient and helpful. Melanie is responsive, proactive, and understanding even when we made changes after the trust was signed. I know we can follow up with questions or changes as time passes. We appreciate her expertise and the work she has done for us and our family.
