My wife and I used McCraken Kuhn and Marks for our second parent adoption. We are so grateful to Demi Marks and the entire team for everything they did for us. The process was completely seamless and much quicker than I expected. We felt so supported by them throughout the entire process. Their whole team came to the courthouse with us to celebrate on adoption day! We cannot recommend them enough!

We are so grateful to Demi Marks and her team for helping us with our second-parent adoption. They are great at translating legal jargon and formal procedures into easy to comprehend steps. The whole team works so well together and it is clear that they all care deeply about the work that they do. We felt very supported through the whole process. This is the best practice in town and I highly recommend their services to anyone who needs them!

Joanna and her team gave me the best divorce I could imagine! I felt well taken care of before, during, and after mediation sessions. The mediation sessions themselves were supper smooth, I felt comfortable the whole time. I believe Joanna's calm demeanor and professional experience give her a confidence that put both parties at ease, and move the process of divorce forward. The snacks, coffee, and delivered lunches kept my blood sugar stable, bonus points for chocolate and peanut butter. I would give more stars but there are only 5!

I believe the collaborative divorce process prays on ignorant, naive and well intentioned people pitching them a “collaborative divorce.” In fact, you end up paying many times more than you would with just a regular divorce because not only are you paying your attorney and your spouses attorney, but you now have a “neutral” involved who’s supposed to act as a mediator or mental health support, and you also pay an accountant to handle reviewing financials, which most attorneys do as part of their job. Irwin refused. Our intake with the accountant alone was $1,000 for an hour conversation for each of us. Thankfully we demanded to not use him, or it’d have cost who knows how much more. Our financials were very straightforward. Couple that with a horribly inefficient and clumsy process and you pay well over what you would have with a regular divorce. Our bills were approaching $30,000 and we had zero to show for it. Just attorneys and other professional’s fees, but no work toward the actual divorce, none! There was legal work done, back and forth legal nonsense, threats, demands, zoom calls, etc. My new attorney nipped these in the bud. Things were resolved in five minutes which took Irwin and opposing counsel and the mediator hours and hours and thousands and thousands of dollars of back and forth and still weren’t resolved. I believe collaborative divorce is a scam which creates a type of “referral group” between attorneys, accountants, and neutrals where they basically refer each other business and create a more expensive divorce wrapped in a pretty sounding package of “collaboration” to those who don’t know any better, but I’m hard pressed to find any situation where you would be better served doing a collaborative divorce rather than the State of TN mandated mediation. You think divorce is expensive with two attorneys? Try adding two more people and a totally inefficient process which for us created infinitely more conflict more than collaboration. I believe Irwin intentionally mislead me down a path of without his magical collaborative divorce process that cripplingly expensive litigation is your only other option. This is an outright lie. In TN you’re FORCED into mediation before litigation, and that’s where the vast majority of divorce cases are settled. I could go on and write plenty more, but the final straw was when Irwin decided, while my mother was on her deathbed, after exhausting another retainer for no divorce legal work, he would just continue charging me without notifying me my retainer was exhausted and would send no bills or notice, until we terminated the collaborative process, then abracadabra a new bill! This was after I told him I was shopping for a mediator, and this process was failing, and only contributed to greater conflict. If you come across Irwin Kuhn, run. If you don’t believe me just ask around about his “collaborative divorce.” You’ll hear all you need to know. Honest attorneys will tell you. So called collaborative divorce should be banned, or at least not allowed to be practiced unless the traditional mediation TN forces you to attend before litigation has failed. I see no situation where traditional mediation would not be a preferred option, and result in more favorable outcomes. Not to mention if you abandon this process because you likely will, you have to start over with a new attorney and no information can be shared with your new attorney. He says it’s so that people are vested in the collaborative process. No, it’s to hold you hostage to a inefficient and expensive process. That’s all it is. I believe it was clear, very early, this process was grossly unsuitable for me and my then wife. I think to continue the way Irwin and neutral did amounts to gross negligence at best, or outright fraud at worst. Upon concluding my relationship with Irwin Kuhn, my divorce was resolved in a single retainer payment to my new attorney. It was handled very well, professionally, with a favorable outcome with far less drama. We settled, so didn’t even need mediation.

Demi Marks was a wonderful lawyer. She was very competent on the legal front but also had vey good therapeutic skills and used humor, good differentiation, and maturity to keep the divorce process moving forward even when there were some emotional peaks to the process. She was able to keep our focus on the goal of getting through the divorce and getting a fair settlement. She conducted herself very professionally even when the opposing counsel got very unprofessional. I highly recommend her!

I cannot tell you what a blessing it was to have Ms. Marks working on my divorce. What could have been a very stressful and anxiety-producing process was made as comfortable as it possibly could be, thanks to both the knowledge and professionalism, and the empathy of Ms. Marks. I felt like my choices were followed, instead of my being forced or led to make decisions. Would highly recommend.
