After reviewing my case, another attorney in Fort Worth looked at me and said he couldn't believe how poorly represented I was by Mr. Dusty Hill. This was not an attorney seeking my business, he was simply a colleague of one of my dearest friends giving me an opinion on Mr. Dusty Hill's representation of my case. In my opinion, Mr. Dusty Hill was self-serving, looking out for his reputation among attorneys, judges, and others in the court system over the best interest of his client. Mr. Dusty Hill also displayed emotional immaturity, lack of self-confidence, and incompetence. If you are looking for representation, I strongly encourage you to look elsewhere.

Unfortunately sometimes divorce attorneys are needed, and I found myself in this situation a few years ago. I was referred by a friend (corporate attorney) to Tom and Dusty Hill, and I'm so thankful I hired Dusty every day. He did a fantastic job and stayed on top of my case as well as answering all of my questions - I'm a bit detailed, so he was patient and understanding as I asked for very specific minor changes. He trusted my judgement in how to best handle the case since I knew my ex-husband the best, but most importantly he REALLY listened to me and cared. Some lawyers are stone cold and great at "winning" or getting their client exactly what they want, and while Dusty did that 100% for me, he was also there for me when I was incredibly emotionally rattled. His legal assistant was always quick to relay messages when he was in court or with another client, and I always promptly got a follow up email or call. I always knew the status of my case and the progress and timeline, and I could not have asked for a better person to carry me through such a horrible experience. Hill Law is fantastic, and I've referred several others to them for varying family law needs.

My recent experience was with Tom D. Hill, the son, also known as Dusty Hill. I'd previously worked with Tom E. Hill and been very satisfied with his efforts. I'd initially requested Tom again but unfortunately for me, I was told his case load was too heavy to take on my case and was referred to his son Dusty. I reluctantly agreed thinking that the apple coudn't have fallen too far from the tree if they're both attorneys and sharing an office. That was a critical error in judgement on my part. I'll spare you the details and just give you the long and short of it. Dusty is either an awful attorney or he was horribly unprepared or a mix of both. He (and I) were tarred and feathered in a child custody hearing where he couldn't even recite the name of the petitioner. He was frantically trying to come up with questions to ask during the hearing and prodding me to help him do the same. It was as if I'd asked someone to come in right off the street who had no previous knowledge of my case even though he'd had weeks to prepare. It was one of, if not, the most humiliating experience of my life and the consequences were swift and severe. I would not be writing this if we'd put up a good fight and lost. I can handle putting up a strong effort and losing. But going into a hearing of this magnitude and losing in the fashion that we did was the ultimate gut punch. This is not a personal attack on Dusty, he's a perfectly nice person. But his total lack of preparation or competence regarding my case bordered on malpractice in my opinion. It was so bad that if I didn't know better, I'd feel like the other side paid him to tank.

I met Terry Gardner after a MVA in 2001, and in 2007-2009 he saved my life doing my divorce. He is smart and kind. Glenda Schroeder
