Everything went smoothly up until the day of my hearing. That was when I finally met my lawyer 15 minutes before going in front of the judge. For the most part everyone I dealt with was supportive and got back to me in a timely manner. I won my case and that is where things took a wrong turn. SSI paid my lawyer fee of $3,179.35. I was supposed to be on SSI for 6 months but less that 30 days after my SSI was approved I was put on SSDI. My back pay had another deduction for $6,000 the max amount by law a disability lawyer can take. I called Acadia and was not allowed to speak with my contact. I was forwarded to some guy named Mike who was extremely rude and told me “we weren’t overpaid and don’t owe you anything”. He then hung up on me. I called SSI and was told that I am due $3,179.35. Again I called Acadia and again Mike rudely told me off and hung up on me. For 10 months I have been waiting for my money from Disability. I called over and over leaving voice mail messages that were never answered. I even called the main office in DC and was again told I was due the overpay. I just found out that the law group can get $6,000 from SSI and a second $6,000 from SSDI! Mike could have explained this to me but instead chose to be rude and condescending towards me. They had the money and I guess I wasn’t worthy if an explanation. 7 different SS employees over 10 months and not one said the payments were right!! I was told by law the lawyer can only get $6,000. Not once was I told SSZi and SSDI were considered separate cases under the same Govt Administration.
