I recently went through an intense custody situation I thought I could handle on my own , at the last minute felt it was best that I hired an attorney. Not knowing anything about where to start or what to look for in an attorney and worrying about how much it was going to cost, I was referred to Camille Mackay at Carr Woodall. When I met with her, I instantly knew I was in good hands. She didn’t hesitate to take on my case & the fight she put up for me when it came to certain things made me feel that she wasn’t just there to “do her job” I felt like she was doing what she would do if she were in my shoes. She helped me resolve a matter that I thought was going to drag on forever. I can definitely say I am satisfied with her service & outcome of the situation. I will recommend her to anyone in need & call her again if I need anything myself.
Thank you, Camille! You’re truly appreciated.

Russ Harvingsten was really responsive and great at first, but as he stopped responding and being available I sought a second opinion from another attorney.
This attorney advised me that Russ hadn't been truthful with me and had done everything he could to maximize his profits from me. Example: attending hearings that weren't necessary to cash-in on an appearance fee
Upon taking me case, the new attorney found motions filed with the court and documents relevant to my hearing that were never shared with me. Russ kept me in the dark to make himself look better and misrepresented the situation with my custody to me.
I had to pay a huge retainer to have him help me, and even more money to receive help that I never received and responses I asked for but never got.
I am sure there are plenty of other great lawyers at this office, but Russ is not one of them. I would save your money and seek counsel from anyone else but him.

Image of Spencer Ricks contract. In Utah, there is no State supervision of attorneys because the "Utah State Bar" is actually a fraudulent, private organization funded by the same attorneys it pretends to supervise. There is no "The Utah State Bar" it's real name is "Utah State Bar" and it is not supervised or funded by the State of Utah. "Utah State Bar" claims it is a non-profit but it is not staffed by volunteers either. Call your state representative, congressman and whoever else you can if this makes you uncomfortable (which it should make you very uncomfortable because it's been going on for decades and apparently no one knows yet. Not even the Dean of the SJ Quinney College of Law. Seriously.)
This example of Spencer Rick's "family law" contract with me is a good indication of Utah's broken family law crisis. Apparently "scribble" is one of the main courses taught at S.J Quinney and condoned by Carr Woodall too. I should have seen Ricks furious pen scribbling back and forth and back and forth as a red flag but like all Utah family law attorneys he was coached in recognizing vulnerability in a parent and trained to exploit that to the tune of thousands of dollars.
Spencer Ricks (Formerly of Just Law in Holladay, Utah) ignored critical emails which could have resulted in definitive action that would have brought productive results for everybody. After several weeks, when he did finally return an email, it was only to demand $2000 for what he called an "enforcement action" when in reality it was just an "Order to Show Cause" (also known as an "OSC") that should have been around $600 to prepare and appear for. As gut wrenching as this was to experience, it's because of Ricks, that I've gone on to help many, many others see how "Utah State Bar" is a fraud, how the "Utah Office of the Court Administrator" creates loopholes crooked attorneys like Ricks use to exploit vulnerable parents, how that same office allows clerks to stack hearings on top of each other so attorneys can bill hundreds of extra dollars for sitting around waiting for a few minutes of actual courtroom time, how that same office allows courtrooms to sit vacant day after day so attorneys can add monthly retainer fees even though no work is being done and how judges perpetuate the whole broken system from the bench with ex parte communication, collusion and deal making. In Utah, there may be a few good attorney's who have bucked the system and are striving for change for the better but Ricks demonstrated many times he is not one of them. Not many are.
The purpose of a family law attorney's in Utah is to do what they are trained to do which is sign you to a contract, then eventually pretend they are doing things for months (or years) by appearing for exploitative hearings, then eventually colluding with a mediator to settle in mediation. (So you know, the attorneys are also getting kickbacks from the mediator they agreed on...that's partly why mediation is also hundreds of dollars an hour)
After I cut loose of Rick's exploitation of me, he still billed me a monthly retainer over a week later. I was then forced to handle two pre-trial conferences and the trial on my own and ended up with what I hoped for: Joint Legal and Joint Physical custody. This gives us both the chance to be parents or not be parents. Sadly, it wouldn't take much for the State to simply legislate that custody starts at 50/50 but I'll leave it up to you to determine why the state and it's broken, attorney friendly legislatures continue to ignore public requests to legislate that...
In the interest of your little ones, before you retain any of the unsupervised, 6,500 attorneys in Utah, sit down and think about what you two are really getting into. If you really need a legal document, find a simple mediator first. Most mediators are also attorneys unfortunately because the state still allows it but they should be able to file a document for you. Tell them what you now know. You'll save enough to pay for your kids college instead of some crooked attorneys "scribble" habit.

Spencer Ricks was amazing! I hired him to modify my very unfair divorce decree. Mediation had to come first and the mediator he chose, the hospitality, genuine concern about staying on subject and getting it done rather than just running up the bill was beyond excellent. If you’re looking for a lawyer who cares, stays focused, and won’t lead you in the wrong direction Spencer Ricks is your guy!

Brad was absolutely amazing to work with. My ex paid $2000 in lawyer fee's and Brad only charged me $400. He and his team were consistent on communication and any issues I had he resolved in a great timely manner. Other lawyers I went to were trying to charge me $2500 in a retainer fee for an EASY divorce. We did not even go to mediation. You want an honest lawyer who won't rip you off I highly recommend Brad 100%

Camille Mackay is amazing. She is currently helping me through a divorce that has been nothing less than a nightmare. I thought I had done my research when I found my first attorney. Thousands of dollars later I realized my mistake. I am still paying for that mistake. Thankfully I fired attorney number one and was lucky enough to find Camille. She has slowly but surely been working out the mess of things that my first attorney left me in. I only wish that I would have found her first. Her rates are reasonable and she is very easy to talk to. She is super smart and I am very confident in her abilities. When you are going through what has to be one of the worst times in your life you need someone by your side that you can trust. I trust Camille Mackay. It is so important for the outcome of your case and your bank account to make the right choice in attornies from the very beginning. I hope I have helped someone else to make that decision.
