I was sitting in Warrenton dog park in early 2020 frantically searching for an attorney to help me with an abusive landlord. I don’t know how I happened to stumble on the law firm where Daniel Bounds worked, but it was only a few steps from the dog park. I explained my problem, and he told me to come to his office. As I sat in a chair across from Daniel, I noticed he had a small book on his desk containing the of the United States Constitution. Daniel was 31 years old that day. He had joined the Marine Corps after finishing college, then entered law school at Louisiana State University. I was living in the basement of a house owned by an acquaintance of mine in Marshall, Virginia. I had moved in September 2019 and the relationship between us had slowly deteriorated until he assaulted me on January 3, 2020 and I was forced to move to a hotel as I was afraid to stay in my rental. Aside from the assault, my landlord head stolen a check I had written for six months rent which I intended to give him after the first six months rent was exhausted. He cashed the $8400 check and tried to cash a personal check I had given him for the same amount when I first rented the apartment. The first thing I noticed about Daniel Bounds is the confidence he exudes. We worked on several issues over the next few months, and were able to win a judgment against my landlord for most of the money he had taken from me. The same landlord filed a protection order against me, so that I was unable to get my belongings out of his house and garage, without a third party moving my possessions. The landlord subsequently filed against me for violating the protection order when I retrieved my newspaper from the mailbox, which was not on his property. Daniel defended me on that charge as well, and the landlord did not prevail. Daniel works hard to defend his clients and in my case he has become a good friend. Diane Deutman Front Royal VA
