Didn't help me worth a squat!! Basically, they just listened to me, and then gave me advice and became someone i could call and get more advice.
But didn't show any interest or effort to going into a court date... instead said (nicely, but was actually serious) "Maybe you should go and find an attorney near that area, they should know the laws better in that city"
SCENARIO: Low-income, Single Full-Time Father with Full Time job. We have 2 kids together (Her first 2 of 4.. My only 2). Live with me FULL-TIME during the school year for last 3 years. The kids goto mom's on all school breaks (as long as we both can afford the transportation) This time on the 3rd month of summer break, she files for petition (and serves) to move kids to there, 150 miles away. Nothing wrong with here (good environment, born and raised in this area, kids fed well, they get to school and social events on time and regularly, no violence, no issues), baby-momma just misses them and wants to see them more, even tho she is the one that left and moved way over there. We had been talking fine, communicating well, and even discussed (a longtime ago) the problems/ reasons of why she isn't capable of caring for them as well as I do (her words).
The person that was helping me clearly showed that i was not worth the 'time and money for travel' for her, even though it's an obvious open-and-closed case. Maybe because I'm a guy...?? Maybe because 150 miles is too far...?? I.D.K. But I never got the help AT ALL that i needed to defend myself against a situation that i had no idea was possible of happening.
**Still pending (it's Nov. 2016), but the only involvement with my case, the attorney is having, is...... Me making an appointment with them after each court date, to "guide me" to what i need to do next before court (understanding paperwork terminology, and what classes or events to go to) until after the next court date..... that I have to go to.... alone... with out an attorney present...
And all because they are the ONLY agency to help "low-income family's", and i can't afford $100 /HR ...with a 10 hour minimum, (due before 1st meeting = $1,000 up front), and I'm sure would also count drive-time as my-time, and probably charge expenses too (food, gas, lodging)

Don't return phone calls, lie and say you never called, and then end up not being able to help because "you never called back."
