I got a traffic ticket for over speeding (42 when limit was 30). I approached Dan whose contact I found through ARAG. I had been issued a citation for a violation of Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 46.61.305, which included, I believe, a failure to signal, and an unsafe lane change. By my recollection, the circumstances were these: I was entering I5 southbound from the NE 50th street entrance. It was daylight, but early on a Saturday morning. I observed no contending traffic in any lane. As I was about to complete the merge, I heard a horn, and observed a motorcycle that had appeared in my left blind spot. I sped up, and swerved back to the right to reduce the chance of a collision. Once I was definitively clear of the motorcycle, I completed the merge. It turned out the motorcycle was an officer of the Washington State Patrol. He pulled me over, and issued the citation. After thinking things over during the next several days, I concluded that I *had* used a turn signal because I had a recollection of the auto-stop on the signal going off as I served away from the motorcycle. Furthermore, I came to believe (although the citing officer had the right-of-way) that he deliberately, and unsafely drove into my blind spot to exacerbate the circumstances of any turn signal violation he'd hoped to witness. There is a somewhat recent Washington State Supreme Court 2019 decision, State vs. Brown, that found that drivers must *always* use their turn signal, even if they believe their intention to turn (or merge) is obvious, and even if they believe there is no one there to see a signal. This was a complicating factor in my ability to fight my citation. In 2007 I fought a speeding ticket on my own, and won. However, I believe that this recent citation had more nuance than I could handle on my own. I therefore researched traffic citation lawyers online, and found Dan Samas. Dan is very professional, all business, and charges a very reasonable fee. He gives quite candid advice, and I was delighted to follow all of it, including allowing he alone to appear at the court hearing for my citation. Dan was able to obtain a dismissal in King County District Court, and I could not be more pleased. The dismissal gives me the latitude - I believe - to complain about the circumstances of my citation with the Washington State Patrol. My highest recommendation to Dan Samas for his high professional competence. This would include the circumstances of a client having more than a few citations, or only one that he does not want on his record (as in my case). Hats off to you, Dan, great job!
