Looking at ways to invest my IRA outside of stocks and bonds, I started looking around on the real pros and cons of self directed IRAs. The custodians seem a little too casual and unconcerned about the risks if a mistake is made. Having a father who lost his home to the IRS, and having recently had my business audited I am concerned about the long-term risks of this path. Luckily after searching around I found Warren's articles about the topic, and learned a bit more. Warren's articles were the only material I could find that had a pragmatic view and explained some concerns along with the benefits of SDIRAs. I happen to live in the same city as Warren, and met with him for his crash course intro to self directed IRAs. I can say he seems like a straight forward, experienced, honest attorney with deep knowledge in this area, and if I move forward with a self directed IRA I will definitely seek his help as I proceed.
