In 1996 sadly I was sent to prison for a crime that I did not commit, and one to which I am to this day still fighting, in hopes to be someday fully exonerated , as I believe, perhaps mistakenly, that the truth will eventually win out, maybe. During the proceeding against me I feel apart and started drinking which in turn lead to me being arrested twice in two years for DUI. Well on my part that was not to bright, as that then created a situation to where I was then fighting an extremely serious felony charge, and then I stacked on these two DUI charges on top of that, so I was basically really messed up and in court it seemed every other day. When I was eventually sent to prison these two DUI's remained unresolved. As mail in prison is usual your highlight in an otherwise mundane environment, it soon became not so for me as every other day I would receive a letter forwarded from my father which would have been my last known address, and these letters would be from the courts regarding these two DUI's and stating that warrants had been issued for my arrest or my fines were going to collection. Well what the heck I'd think, can't they even figure out where I am at? So I decided that I would try to resolve these from prison so that when I did eventually get released I wouldn't have one huge problem on my hands and huge interest charges on these collections and all the other consequences of not taking care of these problems, I just wanted to get out and live a decent and honest life with no problems. So I started in 96 with a typewriter and started sending letters to the courts and then collection agencies, try that, even in person and you will know what an near impossibility this would be. So in 99 after basically getting no where, I decided to contact the Pierce County Public Defenders Office in Tacoma WA. as this was who did represent me on these DUI's, and yes it only took me 3 years of trying to write letters to the courts to figure this out. They did appoint me an attorney who was not to interested in assisting me and I got no where with her, so then enters Ms. Helen Chabot. First I must say that I am not an habitual offender, I just don't take crap from the City of Tacoma and I have been a pain in their hind end for many years now and intend to do so until hell freezes over, but I now find myself in a stupidly ridiculous situation where thankfully I wisely had kept every legal document every aimed at me. I found myself having to look for those letters from Ms. Chabot because believe it or not, after all these years and absolute law abiding behavior those DUI's became an issue and I am informed that those DUI's had never been resolved, can you believe that? Thankfully I had Ms. Chabot's correspondence and the original court documents that she sent me in prison after she was able to go to the courts and get them all ran concurrent with my prison sentence leaving me only some fines, many of which she was able to get reduced. So thanks to Ms. Chabot's hard work I was able to once again literally beat the crap out of the City of Tacoma on that issue. The look on the prosecutors face when I produced court documents and letters from Ms. Chabot from 1999 was priceless and the prosecutor looked as if he wanted to actually leap out that sixth floor window, once again I win. When will they ever learn, answer, never. Though I had long forgotten the content of these letters, when I reread them, I actually teared up because of the tone of Ms. Chabot's letters and her kindness. I am so glad actually that this happened because I had forgotten to thank her in any real meaningful way except by a letter that I had written back to her then in which I did thank her for all her hard work and it was hard and I hope that who ever may read this review will know that Ms. Chabot is a kind and very caring person and I will soon be giving her a call and thanking her again after all these years.
