This lawyer contacted the opposing party completely blowing my entire default case. She had no right and no business doing this when the person was perfectly served by Process Server her out of the way communication with the opposing party along with the Horrible Judge Nakita blokton kept me and my daughter from getting child support we were due for over 17 years yes her one act of stupidity cost me an entire case worth over $326,000. I would never recommend her she is a Golddigger and does not care about her client, she even allowed the judge to berate my teenage daughter in the coortroom and shut me up when I tried to intervene it was horrible and abusive to my daughter, Alyson Hood did nothing. Furthermore after having me sign the Covid documents to sit next to her she not only did not allow me into the hearing 30 minutes after it started but had me sit way in the back where I could not hear a thing. Every bit of this was a travesty every bit of this was disgusting and terrible treatment to her client she blew it the bar will hear of this. She even told me verbatim that she pads her fees. Do not go down the same rabbit hole and indoor the pain I did I am begging you!

Alyson was outstanding in representing me a a PFA accusation . Brutally honest and very detailed. Totally explains everything to you going into trial. Highly, highly recommend in my opinion. Consult with her first if you need an attorney well versed in Family Law.

Alyson is extremely ….intelligent, caring, strategic, responsive, effective, insightful, perspicacious, straightforward, perceptive, intuitive, and adaptive. I hired Alyson for my niece, who had an urgent and sticky child custody case. She was a godsend. If not for Alyson, I am convinced we would not have custody of the child today. We can't thank Alyson enough.

I could say enough positive things about her as lawyer. She took on my case (probably her worst nightmare) and rocked it. She’s a bulldog and a fighter and exactly what in needed going up against what i was. She put in numerous late hours, and poured so much time into the details of my case. She is genuinely passionate about what she does and does it effortlessly. When you walk into a court house and see how others respond to your lawyer, and how well respected they are, is a good feeling when your spending a lot of money with your future in someone’s hands. One of my favorite things about her, is that anytime we would meet her first question would be “how are things with you? Are you holding up ?” She never once hesitated to shoot me straight and I needed to be and probably saved me from a lot of mistakes. My divorce is now final, and she still checks up on my kids and i. I just ant say enough about her. She helped me get through the most difficult time of my life and a horrific custody battle. I am grateful to have had her by my side during a very difficult chapter in my life. I would reccomend her to anyone going through a divorce/custody battle. She’s truly a rockstar.

After a recommendation from a friend who was also an attorney said her presence before local judges was well respected, I chose to hire Alyson for my child custody case. My case was a nightmare but Alyson patiently and in a knowledgable manner got my family through it. Not only was my case out-of-state and extremely high-conflict, but Alyson was tireless and her negotiation skills saved me from bankruptcy when the other attorneys involved were incredibly difficult to deal with and the costs could have become out of control. Instead, her ability to be clever, concise and personable changed the game and got everyone to the table. In the end, I got the dream outcome of legal and physical custody of my child. Alyson is incredibly fierce and intelligent and will fight for you, but her ability to keep nasty situations from the other party from escalating was something that became of the utmost value to my family. I would not hesitate to recommend Alyson in any case regarding child custody or divorce - she truly saved my family.

I live in Huntsville, Al and needed a lawyer who was able to mediate a situation for me. I had tried for four years to settle a warranty issue with a builder and was unable to settle. Mr. Turner worked with me and their attorneys and reached the settlement I deserved. Mr. Turner kept in contact with me and always returned my e-mails and phone calls. Anyone needing a great lawyer should call Mr. Turner.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Birmingham, Alabama?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
