I reached out to this lawyer for a very vital lawsuit and to my surprise right from the beginning of the phone call he was horrible, I tried to even have some compassion towards him thinking maybe he’s have a bad day and I even asked him did I call at a bad time and is he ok. Because the way he talked to me was out of line and unprofessional. My husband and I couldn’t believe what we were hearing from someone that has a title as a lawyer, he was very short with me and so rude, mine you I’m still being very respectful to him, and it seemed he was more irritated of me being nice to him, he went on saying he’s a the store then he’s out of state and he’s so busy and I was like since you are so rude and busy and unprofessional I’ll let you go, like we have the whole conversation recorded and when I tell you, I would NEVER RECOMMEND THIS LAWYER. To think he’s handling other people cases is scary in itself. Please do not hired this lawyer, he is Very unprofessional and disrespectful.

I began my legal journey against my employer 3 years ago without an attorney or any legal assistants. I was discouraged and told by others, including other attorneys, that I could not possibly be successful in pursuing a lawsuit against the government and still be employed. I believed in myself, and I knew that I had the evidence to show that I was discriminated against, harassed, and retaliated against by my employer in my pursuit of justice. I was almost about to give up because of the challenges of finding an attorney who was not fearful of taking on a case against the government, and this is when I was referred to Attorney Dr. Roderick Van Daniel by a family member. Attorney Dr. Roderick Van Daniel was not afraid to take on my legal case which over a three-year span totaled three cases. Attorney Daniel was patient with me, he listened to me, he counseled me thoroughly on what strategies that he would use to obtain success, and he always put me in a position where I was comfortable. Attorney Daniel did an excellent job in preparing me for my deposition that I had for each case, his legal expertise and passion for justice was impeccable throughout my three-year battle with the government. Attorney Dr. Roderick Van Daniel never wavered in his fight for justice for me and he always told me we can keep fighting no matter how things appeared to not go in our favor; with his passion for justice and his fortitude in not being intimidated by a government agency we were able to settle with this agency and Win All Three Cases against the government. I am still employed by this government agency, and I am proud to say that there has been a tremendous amount of change that includes diversity hiring of minorities and women in leadership roles, and a more fair and equitable work environment which is attributed to Attorney Daniel efforts of exposing injustices in the workplace. If you want an Attorney who is not afraid to fight for your rights and a person who cares about his clients, and who is empathetic to his client’s needs I would highly recommend Attorney Dr. Roderick Van Daniel. # Million Dollars Worth Of Justice!!!!

After dealing with a number of franchise attorneys in the NY/Philly area, we were fortunate to find the Richard Duell of Duell Law, well over a decade ago and never looked back. Mr Duell is very knowledgeable with Franchise Law and unlike previous counsel, he knows how to get to the heart of the matter without wasting a lot of hours. His experience with business law has helped us from a practical position as well. He is easily accessible and his staff is always professional and courteous. I would highly recommend him.

Many times in the last couple years we have had to rely on Richard's legal vision of the initial FDD to keep us on high ground when challenged on some issues. He is professional, respectful, knowledgeable, mindful, comprehensive, and highly responsive to our legal needs as well as compassionate to our general business well being. In our short relationship we feel more like family than just another client.

Bill handled a complicated appeal for our family. He was extremely responsive, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable. Bill gave our case his full attention, answered all of our questions, and filed all the paperwork on time or ahead of schedule. Highly recommend.

Bill took my appeal to Montgomery, and won. However, he did the little things that help the case. He answered questions quickly, proposed alternate courses of action, and wrote outstanding briefs.

I hired Mr. Pfeifer to represent me in my divorce and I hired him again when my ex-husband appealed the judge's ruling. Mr. Pfeifer won the case both times. Unlike the first lawyer I consulted, Mr. Pfeifer answered all of my questions in details right away without having to look them up somewhere. He's very patient and able to explain in simple terms that I could understand. If I ever need a lawyer again, he will be the one I call.

I got into a car wreck in Birmingham last year, broke my collar bone, and ruptured 2 discs in my back which required surgery. My attorney, Kirby Farris, and the rest of the attorneys at Farris, Riley & Pitt were wonderful. They settled my case after my insurance company denied my claim. I would recommend them to anyone involved in a car accident.

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Birmingham, Alabama?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
