Rip Andrews is an outstanding individual, and extraordinary attorney, who possesses what can best be described as a "tenacity for justice". Extremely talented and intelligent, Rip Andrews has genuine integrity, compassion, and patience that I have found to be unparalleled in the legal world. He combines his tremendous skill-set with the ability to truly connect with a client on a personal level. Taking on our extremely difficult, lengthy, and complicated wrongful death case, Rip successfully navigated countless setbacks and unexpected turns, demanding and ensuring that justice was served. Without question, our case would have not reached a positive conclusion without Rip's amazing performance. Rip Andrews is a true family man, a wonderful person, and operates on a remarkable level to which all attorneys should aspire.

Rip Andrews is a young brilliant attorney. He took my case and breathed life into it. He connected with the jurors with his opening statement and never lost them. He was respectful to the other side but never failed to fight for me when required. He took input from me and incorporated it into the arguments when necessary using his own words. He maintains composure and is level headed. If you have a legitament case, I highly recommend Rip. He can make the difference you need. He will make old school lawyers look like buffoons. At least he did in my case.

Mr. Andrews is a very professional and thorough. He was upfront with me regarding the difficulties of my case, and advised as to my options. Throughout the preparations/information gathering he was genuinely interested in what I had to report, and advised the best course of action based upon the facts I presented and those that were uncovered during research. I was impressed by his composure in the court room and through jury selection. In the end, the case was won. Mr. Andrews assisted me in getting a desirable outcome, as well as finding closure for a very difficult time.

Absolutely the smartest, hardest working, passionate and ethical attorney available!! Rip not only has a great legal mind and extraordinary talent but he is able to grasp and develop a critical understanding of complex technical issues involved in scientific and engineering cases. I worked very closely with Rip on almost a daily basis for around three years involving a very technical and engineering oriented case. Rip's unique ability to grasp and understand the complex engineering issues involved was pivotal in a successful resolution. Absolutely the best, period!! Hands down, Rip is the smartest, hardest working and most ethical attorney you can find.

As I write this review, I am a little less than two years out from working with William “Rip” Andrews. I’ve wondered for a long time how to express my appreciation for the work he did on behalf of me and my family, and recently this Avvo thing comes into view. Here is my opportunity to speak. Part of the justice he and his colleagues secured for my family includes a confidentiality clause, so I intend to remain anonymous. I came to the firm at which he worked as a potential client with an exceedingly difficult case. I know, because I researched the situation, and knew it was clearly an uphill battle. Rip took point on my case, and told me simply and kindly at each step of the process what the situation was. No smoke, no fluff, just compassion and facts. William Andrews helped me get the results I wanted in a personal matter, and it wasn’t easy. As a seasoned Human Resources manager, I’ve worked with dozens upon dozens of attorneys in all manner of criminal and civil proceedings during my lifetime. William’s conduct and support is in the top percentile of all the attorneys I have worked with, and that is no small number. I’ve spent decades leading businesses, and nearly 4 years working with Rip on my personal matter. I trust him, and in addition he got me the results I wanted.

I live in Huntsville, Al and needed a lawyer who was able to mediate a situation for me. I had tried for four years to settle a warranty issue with a builder and was unable to settle. Mr. Turner worked with me and their attorneys and reached the settlement I deserved. Mr. Turner kept in contact with me and always returned my e-mails and phone calls. Anyone needing a great lawyer should call Mr. Turner.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Birmingham, Alabama?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
