Attorney Yaghmai has been a breath of fresh air. You hear so many horror stories about attorneys just making money and not really having your case at heart. Never was this the case with Attorney Yaghmai. This is an attorney with a big heart. He had been recommended to me by a very good friend of mine. After she recommended him I actually went on line and read about his background. To sum it up he is true to his calling. The very first day that I met him I was very pleased. He was very personable (very important to me), very knowledgable, and I sensed that he was trustworthy. One of the things that he said that was very important to me in the beginning of the case (this was a DUI case) he stated "this will not be a quick process but in order to get it done properly that it would take time but once done it would be done with no questions asked. And he was true to his word. He was worth every dollar spent and more. I would highly recommend him to anyone who needs help especially when never having experienced anything like this before. He is very knowledgeable and will keep you informed. When I called or texted him he always responded I never had to wait for a response from him and he is a very honest man. He truly sets a high standard above and beyond the responses of most stories that I hear about attorneys/lawyers today. I highly recommend Attorney G.F. Yahmai

Greg is always well-prepared and puts his clients' interests first without unnecessarily drawing out a lawsuit. He is easy to work with and maintains civility throughout the litigation process. As we are usually opposing counsel, I always look forward to working with him while still maintaining our respective positions.

I would highly recommend Mr. Yaghmai to anyone who is in need of an attorney. Hiring Mr. Yaghmai allowed me the opportunity to focus on getting the treatment I needed for my injuries without having to worry about how to seek reimbursement for my medical expenses and to get the best settlement possible with regard to my property damage. His due diligence in researching all aspects of applicable case law consistently reassured me that he was "in it" for my best interests and situation and not for what he would get out of the case. From the filing of the case to the eventual mediation I felt as if I had a "prize fighter" in my corner that was prepared to go the distance to ensure that I was pleased with the results. I am confident that had it gone to trial he would have continued to relentlessy pursue the case to a conclusion that was to my benefit.

Firstly, I would like to thank Kevin McKie and the entire Environmental Litigation Group team for the excellent legal services they provided while I was going through the most difficult moments of my life. Not only is Mr. McKie extremely professional and skilled, but he is also a very caring and compassionate man who did everything possible to help me recover compensation in a shorter time and who took a personal interest in my case ever since the beginning. To say that Mr. McKie is a good asbestos litigation lawyer is an understatement. He is the best! If asbestos has taken away your health, you at least deserve financial compensation. Please contact this amazing attorney and you will not be disappointed.

Kevin McKie and the ELG staff were incredibly helpful and eager to do all they could to recover the compensation I desperately needed to pay for my cancer treatment and surgery. The idea of taking legal action has always put me off and I tried to avoid it as best as I could, but eventually, I was left with no other option than to file a claim, as I couldn’t afford to pay for all the procedures. Attorney McKie has undoubtedly changed my negative perception of lawyers by providing excellent and prompt services, calmly answering all my questions and going to great lengths to speed up the process. He is also very compassionate and understood what I was going through emotionally. I was advised to file with more asbestos trust funds to recover a larger sum of money and sure enough, my claim was approved shortly after. Words cannot express how grateful I am for having had Kevin McKie take care of my case. He is a highly skilled, competent and caring lawyer and I’d recommend him to anyone who needs legal counseling.

Kevin McKie is without a doubt a true expert when it comes to environmental litigation. I was very hesitant to seek legal assistance at the beginning since I was aware how complex and demanding my case would be, but at my family’s repeated suggestion, I decided to do it. My case was indeed as complicated as I’d thought, but this didn’t stop Mr. McKie to invest all his energy into solving it. I can honestly say I’ve never met such a passionate and competent lawyer who was also very honest since the beginning about how long my case would take to reach a resolution. Receiving compensation is your right and I strongly encourage everyone whose health was destroyed by these toxic exposures to take action. Mr. McKie is definitely the go-to attorney and you will be pleasantly surprised with the results!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Birmingham, Alabama?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
