I found myself in a situation that no mother thinks could happen to her children and when I truly needed someone to listen and help Adam was that person! He went above and beyond. He took on my case like it was his own children. When I truly felt like there was no hope Adam didn’t stop. He made sure the judge heard the truth and without him I don’t think my outcome would’ve been the same. Even after a victory in court I found myself still needing Adam’s counsel, he stayed with me through it all and did not stop until my daughter was back in my arms! If you find yourself in need of an attorney who will take on your case and truly not stop fighting for you Adam is the guy! I can never thank him enough for helping me and my daughters!

Adam is as good as they come. He's fair, he's straight forward, and he will go fight for you each and every day. When everyone else had turned their back on me, Adam stood with me and helped me negotiate an ugly divorce into a settlement that was fair and in the best interest of my kids! Would/Will recommend any and every opportunity I can!

I was charged with 2 Felonies, both heinous in nature. I was able to speak to Mr. Cumberworth about the case and I felt immediately like he would be a major asset for our team. During my trial, we demolished the State. He gave the most brilliant cross-examination in an extremely tense affair, but the course of my case turned instantly. It was abundantly clear that we had won after that moment. My exposure to all legal proceedings is fairly limited, but I will say that watching him dismantle to the 2 prosecutors was like watching a professional athlete take on a varsity athlete. They were “playing the same sport”, but at far different levels. If you want an attorney who will listen to your concerns and go to battle for you, I promise you will not be disappointed in Mr. Cumberworth. The state/opposing attorneys may wish you had gotten someone else, but you will be glad you retained this man.

I found myself in an unexpected and very scary custody situation. I was at a loss as to what to do or where to even start. Multiple friends recommended Lusk & Lusk. As soon as I met with Jonathan Lusk my mind was immediately put to ease. I hired him the following day and he started working on my case within that business day. Jonathan Lusk was who represented me in court and he did an incredible job and completely left the other side speechless. I also was in communication with his associate Jordan Butler, who did an excellent job with any filings, emails, phone calls that needed to be made. On top of two amazing attorneys, their entire staff of legal assistants and paralegals were efficient and professional every step of the way. When it matters most, don't try to hire the cheapest attorney in town to save money. You need a team who will fight for you and your family every step of the way. I recommend Lusk & Lusk for anyone who feels stuck in a rough situation!

I can not say enough about this amazing legal team. They have been with my son and I every step of the way with our visitation and custody issue. They work hard for you and are so compassionate. Highly recommended Jonathan if you want a fighter of an attorney and Jordan Butler as well. Thanks again for helping to make our hearts whole again.

When you hire a lawyer the most important thing is trust, you must trust what they are telling & selling you! Jon told me from the day I walked in and before I paid what he was going to do. I remember how confident he was lol, and I was like…. Really??? cause I was so nervous! I called Chelsea all the time asking the same questions over and over, she was so patient, kind, & understanding though :) My cases were an A-2 DUI, Failure to properly yield, & No Insurance (which I had). We pled not guilty, the case was continued three times, and the fourth time we went to trial in district court. Well Jon was not there that because he had a doctor’s appointment, so Mike Morenilla filled in for him. (I was like wait, where is Jon, I hired Jon). But Mike did the trial and simply nailed it! Not guilty all 3 counts!! So impressed! So in a brief description the whole team is just wonderful to work with, I am so pleased with the trustworthy, friendly, experienced, educated, confident, & passionate service I received. No conviction, No court cost, No probation, JUST FREE TO GO!

I would highly recommend hiring John Blackwell as your attorney, especially for a DUI charge. He is very professional and definitely takes care of his clients. I was recommended to John by a friend and he treated me as if I was a longtime friend. I was very pleased with the results from my case! Call John Blackwell Alabama!!

Tim and Hodges Trial Lawyers (HTL) did an outstanding job representing us in our dispute with one of the big insurance companies. Tim was very professional and did an excellent job preparing my wife for trial and really made her feel comfortable. We won the case and couldn't have accomplished it without the excellent representation of Tim McFalls and HTL.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Huntsville, Alabama?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
