After sustaining a work related injury in February 2014, I quickly realized that I would need legal representation. A friend and work colleague recommended Mr. Blackwell. Mr. Blackwell and his paralegal, Nicole Brown, take every case very, very seriously. Mr. Blackwell is able to explain the complicated legal process in very simple terms. Mr. Blackwell and Nicole, dedicate themselves to providing the best legal representation available today. Mr. Blackwell is a fighter and uses every strategy possible to win the best settlement possible with the evidence and material at hand. His attention to detail is what makes Mr. Blackwell such a great lawyer. It should be noted that, Mr. Blackwell doesn’t advertise on television, billboards, plaques or other media outlets. He relies solely upon references from his large list of satisfied clients. Rest assured, Mr. Blackwell will take a case to trial if need be, to get the best possible outcome for a case. All of the lawyers you see advertising on the various media outlets, avoid going to court at all cost and will settle a case, out of court, often at the expense of their client. Mr. Blackwell is well respected as an injury lawyer by his peers and Judges alike. In my case, opposing council was well aware that Mr. Blackwell would take my case to trial if an amicable settlement couldn’t be reached. That said, Mr. Blackwell forced opposing council to meet his demands to the letter. After Mr. Blackwell was satisfied that we’d achieved the best possible settlement, opposing council, Mr. Blackwell and myself went to open court to have a Judge review and approve the settlement. In front of the Judge, I was interviewed by Mr. Blackwell and opposing council with regards to the settlement. Then, the Judge interviewed me to make sure that I was in agreement with the settlement too. After the Judge was satisfied on all counts, he addressed me by saying that he knew and respected Mr. Blackwell professionally and that he’s an outstanding injury case lawyer and that he believes that Mr. Blackwell has brought my case to the best possible conclusion. In closing, I will personally recommend Mr. Blackwell and his staff to anyone that has an injury claim and needs the best possible legal representation.

Jeff Blackwell and his associate, Jennifer McKown, did an excellent job on my case. They paid attention to every detail of a complex case and were always one step ahead of the game. They are very knowledgeable, excellent lawyers, and are also kind and caring people. They have good, professional relationships with other lawyers and judges, which gives them good leverage in negotiating. Their professionalism and calm demeanors made the process smoother and less traumatic than it could have been. They also secured a very good outcome in my case.

My Name is Tray, and I would hire Mr. Blackwell again!!!! I suffered a work place injury in 2007, I was totally clueless in every aspect of what was involved, related to a workplace injury. My employer tried to brush off my injury as a NON-Workplace incident. So I started researching online for an Attorney at least to get so basic advice, Mr Blackwell responded to a web posted question from his former partner firm, after a meet and greet I hired Mr Blackwell to represent me. He took the time to explain every aspect possible and made sure that I understood the whole process in absolute detail. After 2 surgeries, Physical therapy, tests, scans, and the workers compensation company withholding compensation checks, delaying approvals for test, scans, medication and even medical treatment itself. We finally ended up in Court, preparation for Court was indepth and completely through, for both myself and Mr. Blackwell, that I was completely confident we could win my case even though I was alittle scared to death. He fought fair and hard to make sure all my rights under the Workers compensation laws were protected and that my employer or the Workers Compensation company didn't neglecte their responsibilities under the law. Even within the years after My case was concluded in court with a favorable judgement, if I had an issue, with treatment, procedures, Dr.s, medication, or payments, he was never to busy to help get any of those issues solved if it was possible. I will sum up my review with this comment. In the office Mr. Blackwell may seem laid back and soft spoken and he is a very caring, passionate, informative person but he takes to a case like a PITBULL, with the mind set and preparedness to fight for each and every case in Court! Thank You for reading my review, I hope it helps you maker he choice you need to, you can't go wrong with Mr.Blackwell.

A former employer hired Jeff Blackwell per my recommendation to represent us in lawsuit against a company that falsified waste shipping manifests. My company was a centralized waste treatment facility licensed to receive and treat non-hazardous waste sources. Our customer was a large company and knowingly falsified waste manifests and shipped hazardous waste to our facility so they could continue to operate their flawed process. This resulted in reduction and eventual ceasing of all waste treated from our facility by the city wastewater treatment plant. They sought compensatory damages against our company and we had no choice but to file lawsuit against our customer as this damaged and eventually shut down our plant. Jeff did an outstanding job against this large company with seemingly unlimited resources to fight us. Everything was very well organized and strategized which was key in his winning the case. Jeff was informative and transparent in his communications from start to finish. I would highly recommend Jeff for any future cases whether business or personal in the future.

We were very pleased with Mr. Howie. Every phone call or email was answered in a very timely manner. He laid out all the options and kept us from going to trial. He is a tough negotiator and will fight for you. We got the best possible outcome that we could have hoped for and certainly recommend him for any criminal charge that someone may be dealing with. Thank you Mr. Howie!

My husband and I were very pleased with the way Morris handled our car accident case. We had a lot of complicating factors with insurance and Medicare involved and Morris with the help of his great team were able to get things sorted out and paid , and they even were able to get a settlement for much more than we expected. So thankful we chose their firm to represent us in this very complicated car accident case.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Huntsville, Alabama?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
